Job summary

SCHOTT Malaysia in Kulim seeks an experienced Automation Lead to head a team of engineers in designing, developing, and delivering automated manufacturing systems. You will advance production yield, quality, and equipment reliability while driving improvements and cost efficiency.

The role requires hands-on PLC/HMI, robotics, and machine vision expertise, strong leadership, and cross-functional collaboration with IT/OT, MES, and external service providers.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Electronics, Mechanical, Mechatronics, or related field.
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in automated manufacturing equipment design and development.
  • Minimum 2 years’ experience with automation houses or equivalent industrial environment.
  • Experience in supervisory or team-lead roles preferred.
  • Experience in PLC and HMI programming, industrial robotics, and machine vision system design and implementation.
  • Familiar with Industry 4.0, MES, IoT integration and CAD documentation.
  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and leadership skills.
  • Good communication skills and English proficiency.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and supervise a team of engineers on automation design, development, and implementation.
  • Identify and implement automation opportunities to improve Yield, Quality, OEE, MTBF/MTTR, and cost efficiency.
  • Prepare automation concepts, system design, specifications, CAPEX plans, and project roadmaps.
  • Oversee automation projects from design, fabrication, installation to buy-off and handover.
  • Establish and execute acceptance testing for automation systems, databases, networks, MES/SAP integration.
  • Support daily manufacturing operations by solving equipment, yield, and breakdown issues.
  • Drive system capability improvement across hardware, software, robotics, and vision systems based on KPIs.
  • Review and upgrade material handling to robotic/servo-based solutions.
  • Develop maintenance plans, manuals, SOPs, troubleshooting guides, and training materials.
  • Ensure safety, cleanroom compliance, reliability, and ISO/IATF/EHS standards.

Your Profile

  • Familiar with IT/OT, Industry 4.0, MES, IoT integration
  • Familiar with Machinery safety standards and compliance, Equipment maintainability and reliability concepts, and CAD drawings and technical documentation
  • Strong mechanical and electrical system knowledge
  • Ability to read and create mechanical drawings and wiring diagrams
  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and coordinate with suppliers
  • Good communication and leadership skills
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and engineering software (AutoCAD, NX, etc.)
  • Good command of English
