Qualifications

  • Law degree (LLB) from a reputable school and admitted as Advocate and Solicitor of the High Court of Malaysia.
  • 2 to 3 years PQE in projects, energy, natural resources and infrastructure.
  • Experience in renewable energy, power or infrastructure transactions is preferred.
  • Strong drafting, analytical and negotiation skills; able to liaise with clients and authorities.
  • Fluent in English; Bahasa Malaysia and Mandarin skills are a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Advising on the full lifecycle of energy and infrastructure projects, from structuring to operations.
  • Conducting due diligence and advising on risk allocation in transactions.
  • Structuring and executing project finance transactions with lenders' counsel.
  • Advising on corporate and commercial arrangements, including JVs and off-take agreements.
  • Engaging with clients, regulators, developers, lenders, and government authorities.

Job description

Robin Lynn & Lee (in collaboration with DFDL) is seeking a driven and technically strong Associate with 2 to 3 years of post-qualification experience to join our growing Energy, Natural Resources & Infrastructure practice. The successful candidate will advise on energy and infrastructure transactions, acting for a range of clients including project developers, sponsors, lenders, and government counterparties, with a primary focus on renewable energy, power, and infrastructure projects. This is an excellent opportunity for a lawyer looking to build a specialist practice in one of the fastest-growing sectors.

Role Overview

Position: Associate (2–3 Years PQE)
Location: Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia
Position Type: Full-Time, Permanent
Practice Area: Energy, Natural Resources & Infrastructure
Salary Range: RM7,500 – RM8,500 per month

Key Responsibilities
  • Undertaking all activities typical of a projects and energy lawyer, including advising on the full lifecycle of energy and infrastructure projects, from project structuring, regulatory approvals, and procurement through to construction, financing, and commercial operations
  • Advising on energy and infrastructure regulatory matters, including liaising with relevant government and regulatory authorities
  • Conducting legal due diligence on project assets and advising on risk allocation in project transactions
  • Assisting with the structuring and execution of project finance transactions, including liaising with lenders’ counsel and reviewing financing documentation
  • Advising on corporate and commercial arrangements between project participants, including joint venture and shareholder structures, off-take arrangements, and construction and operation contracts
  • Advising on land and real property matters in connection with energy and infrastructure project development
  • Supervising and managing client matters, and reporting to and taking instructions from Partners, Senior Associates, and any supervising legal adviser of the Firm
  • Drafting and delivering fee proposals, reviewing and revising invoices, and assisting in the collection of outstanding invoices
  • Liaising with clients, project developers, government authorities, financial institutions, and other transaction stakeholders
  • Assisting with and participating in the Firm’s business development and marketing efforts, including client pitches, attending and speaking at seminars, researching and writing articles, and attending business-related functions
  • Participating actively in the Firm’s learning and development initiatives
  • Participating in knowledge management, professional development and Firm administrative activities as requested
Candidate Requirements
  • Candidate must possess a Law degree (LLB) from a reputable school with a strong academic track record, and be admitted as an Advocate and Solicitor of the High Court of Malaysia
  • 2 to 3 years PQE in projects, energy, natural resources and infrastructure
  • Demonstrated experience in renewable energy, power, or infrastructure transactions is strongly preferred
  • Regional experience in energy or infrastructure transactions is an advantage
  • Strong legal drafting and analytical skills, with the ability to advise on complex energy and infrastructure transactions; negotiation skills are an added advantage
  • Familiarity with the Malaysian energy and infrastructure regulatory framework
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple transactions and deadlines simultaneously
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage confidently with clients and counterparties
  • Fluent in written and spoken English; proficiency in Bahasa Malaysia and Mandarin will be an advantage
  • Organised and resourceful, with strong attention to detail
  • Self-motivated and results-oriented, with the ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team
  • Highest standards of professional ethics, integrity, and judgment
