Job summary

AIA Malaysia is recruiting for Associate Director, New Business - Underwriting to lead Operations Shared Services (OSS) and support underwriting, medical and admin teams. The role emphasizes improving processes and driving efficiency while managing budgets and quality standards.

The position requires substantial underwriting experience and a track record of leading teams, with a strong focus on digital automation and control enhancements to support informed decision-making.

Qualifications

• Minimum Bachelor degree.
• Minimum 10 years underwriting experience in both direct and reinsurer and/or digital automation.
• Special skills – preferably with digital.

Responsibilities

• Provide leadership on OSS operations, including underwriting and processing of new applications.
• Oversee medical and admin teams; drive process improvements and operational efficiency.
• Monitor and report regular quality reviews.
• Manage the department budget and expenses to stay within budget.
• Identify automation opportunities to improve controls and efficiency.
• Track enhancements to ensure targets are met in a timely manner.
• Knowledge transfer: coach, train, and mentor staff to build bench strength.

About the Role

• Provide leadership on day-to-day operations of OSS which includes underwriting and processing of new applications and POS transactions; handling of underwriting appeals.

• Overseethe medical and admin team; lead changes in the areas of process improvement or operational efficiency.

• Handle and report the regular quality review.

• Monitor and effectively manage department’s budget/ expense, to ensure it is within budget

• Identify projects or opportunities to improve automation and control process within the team

• Monitor and track enhancements to ensure targets are being achieved in a timely manner

• Knowledge transfer: coach, train, mentor staff to build bench strength.

Requirements:
