Job summary

AIA is seeking an Actuary to assess individual life insurance applications for the Hong Kong market, based on the issuer guidelines. The role involves medical underwriting, maintaining high quality and efficient turnaround times, and collaboration with field forces to inform decisions.

The candidate will evaluate medical histories, occupational risks, and financial backgrounds, with fluency in English and Chinese.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in a relevant field.
• Medical and Life Underwriting experience preferred.
• Fluent in English and Chinese; Mandarin/Cantonese proficiency a plus.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office.
• Willing to work in IOI City Mall, Tower 1, Putrajaya and follow Hong Kong working calendar.

Responsibilities

• Underwrite all products including medical underwriting per guidelines and regulations.
• Maintain a high level of accuracy and continuously improve quality scores.
• Ensure meeting turnaround time targets and improve efficiency.
• Develop technical proficiency by expanding underwriting scope or limits.
• Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor/manager to meet business needs.
• Evaluate medical history, occupational hazards, financial background, insurable interest and other factors to decide on risk.
• Collaborate with field force and other AIA functions to gather information for decision-making.
• Explain and defend underwriting decisions.

About the Role

Responsible for assessing individual life insurance applications for Hong Kong market based on guidelines set for the issuance of AIA insurance policies.

Job Responsibilities:

• Accurately underwrite all products including medical underwriting by assessing the risks according to company guidelines and regulations.

• Maintains a high level of accuracy (Quality) and always seek to improve individual quality scores with time.

• Ensure meeting individual efficiency target and turn-around-time, always seek to improve individual proficiency scores with time.

• Shows keenness to develop technical proficiency by extending underwriting scope or limits.

• Perform other responsibilities and duties periodically assigned by supervisor / manager in order to meet business requirements.

• Evaluate an individual’s medical history or physical condition, occupational hazards, financial background, insurable interest and other information to resolve whether to accept, modify or decline a risk.

• Collaborate with the field force or other functions of AIA to capture information for decision‑making.

• Explain and defend any underwriting actions.

Job Requirements:

• A recognized tertiary Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience, Post Graduate, Professional Degree in Medical Science, Bioscience background, Insurance or equivalent qualifications.

• Candidate with Medical and Life Underwriting, nursing, or medical labexperience are encouraged to apply.

• Fluent in spoken English & Chinese. Candidate with proficiency to converse in Mandarin / Cantonese would be an added advantage. Passing SPM Chinese subject is a MUST.

• Customer oriented, self-motivated, proficient in Microsoft Office.

• Forward thinker in ensuring all required task and activities are completed.

• Able to adapt desk-bound working environment, working shift including weekend on rotation basis& able to work overtime beyond normal office hour (including weekend & public holiday).

• Willing to work in IOI City Mall, Tower 1, Putrajaya.

• The role is required to follow Hong Kong working calendar.
