Job summary

Job description

Kwantas Engineering Division is seeking a proactive, technically competent and results-oriented Assistant Manager, Workshop to support the daily operations of our estate workshop. This role is responsible for ensuring the efficient maintenance and repair of vehicles, heavy machinery and equipment to support uninterrupted plantation operations while driving workshop efficiency, safety and continuous improvement.

Key Responsibilities

Assist in managing the daily operations of the workshop, including the maintenance and repair of heavy machinery, plantation vehicles, diesel engines, hydraulic systems and related equipment.

Supervise and lead mechanics, welders and workshop personnel to ensure all maintenance and repair works are completed safely, efficiently and to the required quality standardsPlan, coordinate and monitor preventive maintenance programmes to minimise equipment breakdowns and operational downtime.

Manage workshop spare parts inventory and maintenance records while ensuring cost-effective stock control.

Ensure full compliance with company SOPs, workplace safety regulations and environmental standards.

Maintain accurate maintenance records, service reports and job sheets for operational monitoring and audit purposes.

Support field servicing and emergency breakdown repairs at estate locations when required.

Liaise closely with Estate Management and operations teams to provide timely technical support and implement continuous improvement initiatives.

Perform any other duties assigned by the Workshop Manager or Management.

Requirements

Diploma or Degree in Automotive Engineering or a related discipline.

Minimum 3 years of relevant working experience in workshop operations, preferably involving heavy vehicles, machinery or the oil palm plantation industry.

Strong technical knowledge of diesel engines, hydraulic systems and heavy equipment maintenance.

Possess good leadership skills with the ability to supervise, motivate and develop a high-performing workshop team.

A proactive, hands-on and results-driven individual with strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities.

A strong team player with excellent interpersonal and communication skills, capable of working effectively with cross-functional teams.

Well-organized, self-motivated and able to work independently while managing multiple priorities.

High integrity with a strong commitment to safety, quality and continuous improvement.

Possess a valid driving licence and be willing to travel to estate operations when required.
