Job summary

See Yong & Son Construction Sdn Bhd invites applications for an Assistant Shipyard Manager to support the Shipyard Manager in daily shipyard operations, vessel repair and maintenance, manpower, contractors, materials, and equipment. The role requires proactive, safety-conscious leadership and the ability to coordinate with customers and internal teams.

You will monitor progress, ensure schedules and safety adherence, report issues, prepare records, and attend meetings.

Qualifications

• Diploma or degree in Marine/Mechanical Engineering, Naval Architecture, Shipbuilding, or related field.
• Minimum 3 years of relevant shipyard operations experience.
• Proficient communication and organizational skills.
• Willing to work on-site with extended hours or shifts.

Responsibilities

• Assist in planning, coordinating, and monitoring daily shipyard operations and vessel repair/maintenance activities.
• Monitor work progress, schedules, manpower, materials, equipment, and resources to ensure timely completion.
• Coordinate with vessel owners, ship crews, contractors, subcontractors, suppliers, and internal departments.
• Assist with vessel berthing, docking, undocking, shifting, repair, fabrication, and maintenance activities.
• Conduct site inspections and follow up on outstanding works, defects, delays, and operational issues.
• Monitor contractors and workers to ensure work is carried out according to requirements, schedules, quality standards, and company procedures.
• Ensure compliance with shipyard safety requirements, permit-to-work procedures, housekeeping, and safe working practices.
• Assist in coordinating manpower, materials, tools, and equipment required for daily operations.
• Report operational, safety, quality, and resource issues to the Shipyard Manager and assist in resolving them.
• Prepare and maintain work progress reports, operational records, vessel records, and other relevant documentation.
• Attend meetings, follow up on action items, and perform other duties assigned by Management.

The ideal candidate should be responsible, proactive, safety-conscious, and able to coordinate effectively with customers, contractors, suppliers, and internal teams.

Requirements

• Minimum Diploma/Degree in Marine Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Naval Architecture, Shipbuilding, Maritime Studies, or related field.
• Minimum 3 years of relevant experience in shipyard operations, vessel repair/maintenance, shipbuilding, marine construction, or related industry.
• Good understanding of shipyard operations, vessel repair, maintenance, and contractor coordination.
• Good communication, interpersonal, organizational, and time management skills.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office, especially Word and Excel.
• Responsible, proactive, safety-conscious, and able to work independently and under pressure.
• Good problem-solving, coordination, and follow-up skills.
• Willing to work on-site and extended hours, weekends, or shifts when required.

Preferred Skills

• Experience in ship repair, dry docking, shipbuilding, marine engineering, fabrication, or marine construction.
• Basic knowledge of mechanical, piping, welding, fabrication, or electrical shipyard works.
• Knowledge of shipyard safety and permit-to-work systems.
• Experience in supervising contractors, subcontractors, and shipyard workers.
• Strong teamwork, leadership, documentation, and reporting skills.
