Job summary

Amphenol DC Electronics Malaysia Sdn Bhd is seeking an Assistant Production Manager to support the Production Manager in overseeing daily manufacturing operations. Qualifications

• Diploma/Degree in Manufacturing, Mechanical, Electrical, Industrial Engineering or related field.
• 5–8 years of manufacturing experience, with 2–3 years in a supervisory/management role.
• Experience in custom cable, wire harness, cable assembly, or electrical/electronic manufacturing preferred.

Responsibilities

• Manage daily production activities to meet output and delivery schedules.
• Supervise production supervisors, team leaders, technicians, operators, and other staff.
• Coordinate with Planning, QA/QC, Engineering, Warehouse, and Maintenance to resolve issues.
• Implement Lean Manufacturing, 5S/6S, Kaizen, and continuous improvement initiatives.
• Work with Engineering on process improvements and NPI/production transfers.
• Ensure safety, quality, and compliance with EHS policies.
• Prepare and communicate production KPI reports and attend management meetings.

The role oversees production activities involving cable cutting, stripping, crimping, soldering, termination, assembly, testing, labeling, and final inspection.

Job Summary

The Assistant Production Manager supports the Production Manager in managing daily manufacturing operations to ensure production targets, quality standards, delivery schedules, productivity, and cost objectives are achieved. The role oversees production activities involving cable cutting, stripping, crimping, soldering, termination, assembly, testing, labeling, and final inspection.

Key Responsibilities

1. Production Management

• Manage and monitor daily production activities to achieve planned output and delivery schedules.

• Ensure production orders are completed according to customer requirements and production plans.

• Monitor production performance, downtime, bottlenecks, and machine utilization.

• Coordinate with Production Planning, Quality, Engineering, Warehouse, and Maintenance to resolve production issues.

• Ensure proper production flow and effective utilization of machines, materials, and manpower.

2. Manpower Management

• Supervise production supervisors, team leaders, technicians, operators, and other production personnel.

• Plan manpower allocation according to production requirements.

• Monitor attendance, overtime, productivity, and employee performance.

• Identify training needs and develop employees' technical and operational capabilities.

• Promote discipline, teamwork, and a positive working environment.

3. Quality Management

• Ensure products are manufactured according to approved work instructions, drawings, specifications, and quality requirements.

• Work closely with QA/QC to investigate and resolve quality issues.

• Reduce defects, rework, scrap, and customer complaints.

• Ensure proper implementation of process controls and quality checkpoints.

• Promote a strong \"quality at source\" culture within production.

4. Productivity & Cost Control

• Monitor production KPIs such as output, efficiency, yield, scrap, downtime, and labor productivity.

• Identify opportunities to improve production efficiency and reduce manufacturing costs.

• Implement Lean Manufacturing, 5S/6S, Kaizen, and continuous improvement initiatives.

• Analyze production losses and develop corrective actions.

5. Process & Technical Support

• Work with Engineering to improve manufacturing processes and production methods.

• Support new product introduction (NPI) and production transfer activities.

• Review and improve work instructions, process flows, tooling, fixtures, and production layouts.

• Ensure crimping, soldering, stripping, cutting, termination, assembly, and testing processes are properly controlled.

• Ensure production equipment and tooling are properly maintained and available.

6. Safety & Compliance

• Ensure all production activities comply with company EHS policies and applicable safety requirements.

• Promote safe working practices and maintain good housekeeping.

• Participate in safety inspections, audits, incident investigations, and corrective actions.

• Ensure employees follow PPE and machine safety requirements.

7. Reporting & KPI

• Prepare daily/weekly/monthly production reports.

• Monitor departmental KPIs and communicate performance to management.

• Conduct production meetings and follow up on outstanding issues.

• Provide recommendations to management on production capacity, manpower, equipment, and process improvements.

Requirements

• Diploma/Degree in Manufacturing, Mechanical, Electrical, Industrial Engineering, or related field.

• 5–8 years of manufacturing experience, preferably with at least 2–3 years in a supervisory/management role.

• Experience in custom cable, wire harness, cable assembly, or electrical/electronic manufacturing is highly preferred.

• Strong knowledge of cable and wire harness processes such as:

  • Wire/cable cutting and stripping

  • Crimping and terminal insertion

  • Soldering

  • Connector assembly

  • Cable routing and assembly

  • Continuity/Hi-Pot testing

  • Labeling and visual inspection

• Good understanding of production planning, manpower planning, quality control, and manufacturing KPIs.

• Experience with Lean Manufacturing, 5S/6S, Kaizen, and continuous improvement.

• Good leadership, communication, problem-solving, and analytical skills.

• Able to work under pressure and manage changing production priorities.

• Experience with ERP/MRP systems is an advantage.

• Mandarin Speaking is highly preferred.
