The Assistant Procurement Manager is responsible for managing and executing the company's end-to-end procurement activities independently. This is a hands-on role requiring the successful candidate to manage the full procurement process, from supplier sourcing and quotation evaluation to negotiation, purchasing, delivery follow-up, and resolution of procurement-related issues.
The position requires strong experience in food manufacturing procurement, particularly in the sourcing of food ingredients, raw materials, and packaging materials, while ensuring procurement activities support both operational and halal requirements.
JOB SUMMARY
The Assistant Procurement Manager is responsible for managing and executing the company's end-to-end procurement activities independently. This is a hands-on role requiring the successful candidate to manage the full procurement process, from supplier sourcing and quotation evaluation to negotiation, purchasing, delivery follow-up, and resolution of procurement-related issues.
The position requires strong experience in food manufacturing procurement, particularly in the sourcing of food ingredients, raw materials, and packaging materials, while ensuring procurement activities support both operational and halal requirements.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Manage and execute end-to-end procurement activities independently, from sourcing to delivery and completion of purchasing requirements.
- Source, evaluate, and develop reliable suppliers for raw materials, food ingredients, packaging materials, and other company requirements.
- Request, evaluate, and compare supplier quotations to ensure competitive pricing and suitable purchasing terms.
- Negotiate with suppliers on pricing, MOQ, payment terms, lead time, delivery schedules, and other commercial terms.
- Prepare and manage Purchase Requisitions (PR), Purchase Orders (PO), quotation comparisons, and related procurement documentation.
- Monitor stock levels, safety stock, production requirements, and purchasing needs to ensure sufficient material availability.
- Coordinate closely with Production, Warehouse, QA/QC, R&D, Finance, Halal, and Management regarding procurement requirements.
- Follow up with suppliers on order status, delivery schedules, delays, shortages, and urgent purchasing requirements.
- Evaluate and monitor supplier performance in terms of pricing, quality, delivery, reliability, and responsiveness.
- Identify alternative suppliers and sourcing opportunities to minimise supply disruption and procurement risks.
- Conduct cost analysis, price benchmarking, and cost-saving initiatives to improve procurement efficiency.
- Maintain accurate and updated supplier information, pricing records, purchasing records, and procurement documentation.
- Ensure purchased materials meet the required quality, food safety, halal, and company requirements.
- Take ownership of and resolve procurement-related issues, including material shortages, supplier delays, price increases, quality issues, and delivery problems.
- Prepare procurement reports, purchasing analysis, supplier performance updates, and cost-saving reports for Management.
- Ensure all procurement activities comply with company policies, procedures, approval requirements, halal requirements, and applicable regulations.
- Perform any other procurement-related duties assigned by Management.
JOB REQUIREMENTS
- Minimum 15 years of relevant experience in Procurement, Purchasing, Sourcing, or Supply Chain.
- Food Manufacturing / FMCG experience is highly preferred.
- Previous experience at Senior Executive level or above.
- Strong hands-on experience in purchasing food ingredients, raw materials, and packaging materials.
- Possess a Master's Degree in Supply Chain Management, Procurement, Business Administration, or a related field.
- Halal Executive Certificate is highly preferred, particularly for candidates with experience in food manufacturing and halal-certified products.
- Strong knowledge and experience in supplier sourcing, negotiation, cost management, and procurement processes.
- Excellent negotiation, analytical, problem-solving, and decision‑making skills.
- Able to work independently with minimal supervision and take full ownership of procurement activities.
- Able to manage multiple purchasing requirements and priorities simultaneously.
- Strong communication and coordination skills when dealing with suppliers and internal departments.
- Male's candidates are preferred.
- Willing to work in Pasir Gudang, Johor.

KEY EXPECTATION
This position is a hands-on individual contributor role with no direct reports. The successful candidate must be capable of handling the full procurement function independently from A-Z and ensuring all procurement matters are properly followed through until completion.
