Hartalega NGC Sdn Bhd is seeking an Assistant Manager - Technology (Design) to spearhead advanced technology integration across manufacturing operations. You will serve as the SME for innovation and R&D, driving plant-wide process optimization and complex engineering projects that meet safety and quality standards.
You will lead design and modification work, coordinate with mechanical and process engineers, and ensure timely, compliant deliverables while coaching team members and supporting risk
Spearhead the integration of advanced technologies and cultivate a culture of engineering excellence across Hartalega’s manufacturing operations. Serving as the primary subject matter expert for innovation and R and D, this role champions plant-wide process optimization. Furthermore, it directs complex engineering projects to meet rigorous technical, safety, and quality standards, directly advancing the company’s strategic continuous improvement and sustainability objectives.
1. Receive project plans and work priorities from the Manager and break them down into clear, actionable task assignments for mechanical and process engineers, ensuring each team member understands their deliverables, timelines, and quality expectations.
2. Work directly alongside engineers in the execution of mechanical and process design improvement projects - including engineering studies, feasibility assessments, root cause analyses, and design modification development - providing active technical guidance throughout.
3. Personally lead or closely direct the preparation of key engineering deliverables such as design drawings, process flow diagrams, modification packages, engineering calculations, and specifications, reviewing outputs before submission to the Manager.
4. Serve as the primary on-the-ground technical authority for the mechanical and process workstream, being the first point of escalation for engineers encountering technical challenges before issues are raised to the Manager.
5. Track and monitor the daily and weekly progress of all engineering tasks within the workstream, maintaining visibility of team workload, identifying blockers early, and reporting consolidated updates to the Manager.
6. Be actively present during plant modifications, field activities, and construction execution phases, providing on-site technical oversight, resolving implementation issues in real time, and ensuring adherence to design intent and HSE requirements.
7. Coach and develop engineers within the workstream on a daily basis - guiding technical decisions, reviewing their work, providing constructive feedback, and supporting their competency growth in mechanical and process engineering disciplines.
8. Support risk assessments, HAZOP/HAZID sessions, and Management of Change (MOC) processes for mechanical and process modifications, ensuring all documentation is technically sound before escalation to the Manager.
9. Estimates project costs, tracks spending within the mechanical/process workstream, ensures engineers work within approved budgets, flags overspend to Manager
1. Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering (Chemical or Mechanical preferred but not mandatory) or a related field.
2. Minimum 5 years of relevant working experience in engineering or related technical functions.
3. Experience in project planning, coordination, and execution within engineering environments.
4. Ability to analyse technical issues, interpret data, and develop engineering-based solutions.
5. Capability to work independently on engineering tasks and collaborate effectively across technical functions.
6. Competence in engineering and project tools including AutoCAD, Microsoft Office, and project management software such as MS Project or Primavera.
