Job summary

Sun Life Malaysia Assurance Berhad is seeking a Risk Management Manager to support independent identification, assessment, monitoring and reporting of financial and takaful risks, acting as a second-line risk review function in line with the company’s risk framework and BNM expectations.The role focuses on technical risk review, analysis and reporting, with oversight from senior management, and contributes to the development and capability of team members to ensure timely, accurate risk

Qualifications

• Degree in Actuarial Science, Finance, Risk Management or related discipline.
• Progress in professional actuarial or risk qualifications is an advantage.
• Experience in risk management within insurance is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Risk Committee Support and Reporting: update risk registers, emerging risks and consolidate risk dashboard.
• Oversee maintenance and annual review of Risk Management policies and operating guidelines (OG).
• Support ARQ and assess adherence to risk policies and programs via Annual Risk Questionnaire (ARQ).
• Assist in setting economic scenarios and reviewing risk limits.
• Prepare independent credit review reports and liaise with Investment team to assess issuer risk profiles.
• Support MBCT governance and validation of models, calculators, end user computing tools and analytics applications.
• Review asset mix, duration targets and portfolio parameters; develop risk awareness materials.

Job description

This role supports the independent identification, assessment, monitoring and reporting of financial and takaful risks, acting as a second-line risk review function in accordance with the Company’s risk management framework and Bank Negara Malaysia (BNM) regulatory expectations.

The position focuses on technical risk review, analysis and reporting, with appropriate oversight provided by senior management.

The role also supports the development and capability of team members to ensure timely, accurate and high-quality risk assessments and deliverables.

Major Accountabilities

1. Risk Committee Support and Reporting

Update risk registers, emerging risks and consolidate risk dashboard.

Support and coordinate the preparation of report to:

• Takaful Committee Meeting (TCM)


• Asset Liability Committee (ALCO)


• Enterprise Risk Management Committee (ERMC)


• Board of Directors (BOD)

2. Risk Policies and Operating Guidelines

Oversee and coordinate the maintenance and annual review of Risk Management policies and operating guidelines (OG)

Perform independent second-line review of relevant policy or OG submissions from first-line functions.

Support Policy Sponsor in assessing adherence to, and effectiveness of, the Company’s risk management policies and programs via Annual Risk Questionnaire (ARQ)

Monitor, track and report remediation actions for policy non-compliance

3. Risk Appetite Monitoring and Reporting

Assist in setting economic scenarios and reviewing risk limits.

Perform quarterly reviews of Earnings at Risk and Capital at Risk, ensuring methodological consistency and appropriateness.

Coordinate and support the annual review of internal target capital level (ITCL) exercise.

4. Credit Risk Review and Independent Assessment

Prepare independent credit review reports as part of the second line risk function.

Liaise with the Investment team to assess issuer risk profiles and exposures.

5. Model, Analytics and MBCT Risk Review

Support the Company’s MBCT and advanced analytics governance activities.

Perform independent reviews of models, calculators, end user computing tools and analytics applications developed by first line functions.

Assist in model validation reviews and document findings, observations and control deficiencies.

6. Asset Liability and Portfolio Risk Parameters

Support annual reviews of asset mix, duration targets and portfolio parameters.

Perform analytical reviews to assess alignment with approved risk appetite and tolerances.

Support the development and review of risk awareness materials, including training slides, internal communications and staff engagement materials, to foster a strong risk culture.

Qualification

Degree in Actuarial Science, Finance, Risk Management or related discipline.

Progress in professional actuarial or risk qualifications is an advantage.
