Job summary

Ecolex Sdn Bhd, headquartered in Malaysia, seeks a highly motivated Legal Assistant Manager to support our legal, compliance, risk management, and corporate governance functions within a manufacturing environment.

You will draft and negotiate various agreements, provide strategic legal advice, ensure regulatory reporting, and support employment law. You will also coordinate with external counsel and regulators while mitigating cross‑functional risks.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in Law or related discipline is required.
• Professional legal qualification or admission to the Malaysian Bar is an advantage.
• Certifications in Compliance, Risk Management or Corporate Governance are beneficial.
• Minimum 5–7 years of experience in legal, compliance, risk or governance.

Responsibilities

• Draft, review, negotiate, and manage commercial, procurement, service, employment, tenancy, and confidentiality agreements.
• Provide legal advice on corporate, commercial, regulatory matters.
• Ensure governance compliance, licenses, permits, and regulatory reporting.
• Support employment law compliance and workplace policies.
• Manage disputes and coordinate with external counsel as needed.
• Identify and mitigate legal and regulatory risks across the business.
• Liaise with government authorities, regulators, auditors, insurers, and stakeholders.
• Support IP protection, data privacy (PDPA), insurance matters, and ethics initiatives.
• Monitor legislation changes and advise on ongoing compliance.

Job description

We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Legal Assistant Manager to support the company's legal, compliance, risk management, and corporate governance functions. The role will provide legal and contractual support to various business units, ensuring compliance with applicable laws and regulations while minimizing legal and operational risks in a manufacturing environment.

Key responsibilities

Draft, review, negotiate, and manage commercial, procurement, service, employment, tenancy, and confidentiality agreements.

Provide legal advice and guidance on corporate, commercial, operational, and regulatory matters.

Ensure compliance with corporate governance requirements, statutory obligations, licenses, permits, and regulatory reporting.

Support employment law compliance, including employment contracts, workplace policies, disciplinary matters, and labour-related issues.

Manage legal disputes, claims, litigation matters, and coordinate with external legal counsel when required.

Identify and assess legal, regulatory, contractual, and business risks, and develop appropriate mitigation strategies.

Liaise with government authorities, regulators, company secretaries, auditors, insurers, and external stakeholders.

Support intellectual property protection, data privacy compliance (PDPA), insurance matters, and ethics & compliance initiatives.

Monitor changes in legislation and provide recommendations to ensure ongoing compliance across the organization.

Key Requirements

Bachelor's Degree in Law, Legal Studies, Business Law, or a related discipline.

Professional legal qualification or admission to the Malaysian Bar will be an added advantage.

Certification in Compliance, Risk Management, Corporate Governance, or related fields is advantageous.

Minimum 5-7 years of relevant experience in legal, corporate services, compliance, risk management, or corporate governance functions.

Experience in a manufacturing, industrial, chemical, food ingredients, engineering, or FMCG environment is preferred.

Hands‑on experience in contract management, regulatory compliance, and legal advisory matters.

Experience dealing with government authorities, external legal counsel, and cross‑functional stakeholders.

Practical experience in AI application in legal work, with awareness of AI governance and risks will be an added advantage.

Strong knowledge of commercial and corporate law.

Excellent contract drafting and negotiation skills.

Good understanding of employment law and regulatory compliance.

Strong analytical, problem‑solving, and risk assessment capabilities.

Excellent communication, stakeholder management, and interpersonal skills.
