Job summary

Smiths Detection in Malaysia is seeking a hands-on Assembly Technician to support the assembly, testing and rework of sub-assemblies and finished products. You will follow written work instructions, drawings and schematics to ensure high quality while supporting lean manufacturing.

You will use hand tools and electronic test instruments, complete documentation, and collaborate with cross-functional teams to meet production targets. Fresh graduates welcome; training provided.

Qualifications

• Diploma, High School "O" Level, or equivalent qualification.
• Experience in an engineering, electronics, manufacturing, or related environment is advantageous but not essential.
• Fresh graduates and candidates without prior experience are encouraged to apply as training will be provided.
• Strong mechanical aptitude and manual dexterity.
• Comfortable working with small hand tools, assembly equipment, and electronic test instruments.
• Ability to read and follow written work instructions, drawings, and schematics.
• Good attention to detail and commitment to quality.
• Basic computer literacy and ability to complete production records accurately.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
• Strong willingness to learn and continuously improve technical skills.

Responsibilities

• Perform assembly, testing, and rework of sub-assemblies and final products in accordance with work instructions, engineering drawings, blueprints, and schematics.
• Use hand tools, electronic test equipment, and production tooling safely and effectively to complete manufacturing tasks.
• Accurately complete manufacturing, inspection, and test documentation as required.
• Follow established manufacturing processes, procedures, quality standards, and company policies.
• Identify, troubleshoot, and elevate product or process issues where appropriate.
• Support and participate in Lean Manufacturing initiatives, including Kaizen events, Cycle Counting, and 5S activities.
• Ensure products meet quality, safety, and performance requirements before release.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment.
• Comply with all company health, safety, environmental, export control, and security requirements.
• Collaborate with colleagues and cross-functional teams to achieve production goals and operational targets.
• Perform other duties as assigned to support business and operational requirements.

About the Role
