Job summary

HFG Insurance Recruitment seeks an experienced AS400 Developer to drive development, integration, and operations of the Polisy/400 policy platform in Kuala Lumpur. You will analyze business requirements, maintain system architecture, and resolve production issues while collaborating with cross-functional teams and vendors to ensure seamless insurance operations.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or higher in Computer Science, Information Technology, Software Engineering or related field.
• Minimum 5 years hands-on AS400 development and system support experience.
• Prior work in General Insurance or financial services is preferred.
• Proficiency in IBM iSeries / AS400 technologies and COBOL/400.
• Strong problem-solving and communication skills to bridge technical and business needs.

We are seeking an experienced AS400 Developer to drive the development, system integration, and operational support of our core Polisy/400 policy administration platform. In this role, you will analyze business requirements, maintain system architecture, resolve production issues, and work alongside cross-functional teams and vendors to ensure seamless insurance operations.

Key Responsibilities

• System Development & Architecture- Application Development: Design, code, test, and implement enhancements for the Polisy/400 and GroupAsia/400 policy administration systems in accordance with industry standards.
• System Integration: Lead integration efforts between AS400 core platforms and internal/external third-party systems.
• Architecture & Change Management: Maintain a strong understanding of core system architecture, adhering strictly to Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) guidelines and change management controls.
• Production Support & Issue Resolution- Troubleshooting: Analyze, debug, and resolve day-to-day production issues, system bugs, and failed overnight batch jobs promptly.
• Stakeholder Coordination: Collaborate closely with business users, IT infrastructure, and third-party vendors to clarify functional requirements and resolve incident tickets.

Qualifications & Experience

• Education: Bachelor’s Degree or Post-Graduate Diploma in Computer Science, Information Technology, Software Engineering, or a related discipline.
• Experience: Minimum of 5 years of hands-on experience in AS400 development and system support.
• Domain Knowledge: Prior work experience within the General Insurance or broader financial services industry is strongly preferred.
• Technical Skills & Competencies- Core Platform: Hands-on operational and development expertise on IBM iSeries / AS400.
• Programming Languages: Proficiency in COBOL/400 and standard COBOL.
• Application Frameworks: In-depth knowledge of Polisy/400, GroupAsia/400, and SMART/400.
• Databases & Data Management: Strong understanding of relational database concepts (DB2/400) to facilitate scalable software design and queries.
• Soft Skills: Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills to effectively bridge technical solutions with business needs.
