Job summary

Businesslist in Malaysia is seeking an experienced Application Developer (AS400/Cobol) to develop and maintain applications using Smart COBOL, SQL/DB2, and AS400 / IBM i. You will support General Insurance processes across policy administration, claims, underwriting, receivables, and accounting.

Responsibilities include investigating system issues with root-cause analysis, ensuring robust and compliant solutions, and participating in the full SDLC from requirements to post-production support.

Qualifications

• Minimum 8 years hands-on development experience in enterprise systems.
• Solid understanding of General Insurance business processes.
• Experience in application development, enhancement, maintenance and production support.
• Ability to perform system impact analysis and propose practical solutions.
• Strong communication and documentation skills.

The Successful Applicant

A successful Application Developer (AS400/Cobol) should have:

• Minimum 8 years of hands-on experience
• Strong development experience in Smart COBOL, SQL/DB2, and AS400 / IBM i technologies.
• Solid understanding of General Insurance business processes, including Policy Administration, Underwriting, Claims, Receivables, and Accounting.
• Experience in application development, enhancement, maintenance, and production support.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to perform system impact analysis and recommend practical solutions.
• Good understanding of system integration, data flows, and interfacing within the Policy Asia ecosystem.
• Experience across the full Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC), including requirements analysis, design, development, testing, implementation, and support.
• Knowledge of BusinessObjects or similar reporting tools is an added advantage.
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision while managing multiple priorities.
• Strong communication, stakeholder management, and documentation skills.
• High level of ownership, accountability, and commitment to delivering quality solutions
