Job summary

Star Media Group Berhad is seeking a data scientist to turn complex media and customer behaviour data into high-impact digital solutions. You will build and optimize predictive models, perform EDA, and automate data pipelines to support readership, subscriptions, ad performance, and content recommendations.

You will deploy models to production, implement CI/CD for retraining and drift monitoring, and develop dashboards in Google Data Studio to communicate strategic insights to business partners.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or postgraduate qualification in Data Science, Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Statistics, or a related field.
• 2 to 5 years of relevant working experience developing, training, evaluating, and deploying machine learning models in production commercial environments.
• Proficient in Python or R for data processing, analytics, automation, and machine learning development.
• Strong foundation in supervised/unsupervised learning, predictive modeling, customer analytics, and NLP techniques (e.g., text classification, sentiment analysis, NER).
• Hands-on experience with LLMs, prompt engineering, RAG frameworks, and vector stores/databases.
• Solid database and pipeline experience with SQL, BigQuery, or MySQL.
• Experience with cloud platforms (preferably GCP, Vertex AI, Gemini API) and MLOps/CI-CD workflows.
• Familiarity with data visualization tools such as Google Data Studio.

Responsibilities

• Develop and optimize predictive models (e.g., propensity modeling, churn prevention, Customer Lifetime Value) and machine learning algorithms to enhance readership, subscriptions, ad performance, and content recommendations.
• Conduct exploratory data analysis (EDA), perform data extraction and transformation, build custom automation workflows using Python, and maintain automated data pipelines.
• Deploy machine learning models server-side into production environments, set up CI/CD pipelines for automated retraining and drift monitoring, and track model performance.
• Create compelling dashboards using Google Data Studio, and translate complex technical concepts into strategic insights for business partners.
