Job summary

The ideal candidate has a degree or ACCA/ACA, 2–5 years of accounting experience, and strong Excel skills, with knowledge of Malaysian GAAP. Ability to handle multiple tasks and maintain confidentiality is essential.

Qualifications

• Formal qualification in Accounting, Finance or related discipline (degree or ACCA/ACA or equivalent).
• 2–5 years proven experience as an Accountant or in a similar financial accounting role.
• Strong proficiency in accounting software and Microsoft Excel.
• Knowledge of GAAP and Malaysia accounting standards.
• Excellent attention to detail and high accuracy in numerical work.
• Strong organizational and time management skills with ability to manage multiple tasks.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and maintain financial records (GL, journal entries, reconciliations).
• Record daily financial transactions accurately and timely.
• Prepare monthly, quarterly and annual financial statements per accounting standards.
• Conduct bank reconciliations and investigate discrepancies.
• Assist in budgeting and financial forecasting.
• Process accounts payable and accounts receivable transactions.
• Reconcile subsidiary ledgers and control accounts.
• Support audit processes with documentation and schedules.
• Ensure tax compliance and assist with tax preparation.

About the role
Borneo Crops Sdn Bhd is seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Accountant to join our Finance team in Sabah. This is a full-time position that plays a crucial role in maintaining the financial integrity of our organisation. As an Accountant, you will be responsible for managing financial records, preparing accurate financial statements, and ensuring compliance with accounting standards and regulations. This position is integral to supporting management decision-making and ensuring the organisation operates with sound financial practices.

What you’ll be doing

Preparing and maintaining financial records, including general ledger entries, journal entries, and account reconciliations

Recording daily financial transactions accurately and in a timely manner

Preparing monthly, quarterly and annual financial statements in accordance with accounting standards

Conducting bank reconciliations and investigating discrepancies

Assisting in the preparation of budgets and financial forecasts

Processing accounts payable and accounts receivable transactions

Reconciling and maintaining subsidiary ledgers and control accounts

Supporting the audit process by preparing necessary documentation and schedules

Ensuring compliance with tax regulations and assisting with tax preparation

Identifying and reporting any accounting irregularities or discrepancies to management

Maintaining confidentiality of financial information and adhering to company policies

Supporting the finance team with ad-hoc financial analysis and reporting as required

What we’re looking for

Formal qualification in Accounting, Finance or a related discipline, such as a degree or professional accounting qualification (e.g., ACCA, ACA, or equivalent)

Proven experience working as an Accountant or in a similar financial accounting role, ideally 2-5 years in a comparable position

Strong proficiency in accounting software and Microsoft Excel

Comprehensive knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) and accounting standards relevant to Malaysia

Excellent attention to detail and high accuracy in numerical and financial work

Strong organisational and time management skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines

Solid understanding of financial statement preparation and account reconciliation

Knowledge of tax compliance and reporting requirements in Malaysia

Professional communication skills, both written and verbal

Integrity and a commitment to maintaining confidentiality of financial information

Proficiency in the English language; knowledge of Malay is advantageous

Preferred experience in the agricultural or plantation sector would be beneficial
