YTL DC SOUTH SDN. BHD. seeks a 33kV Competent Person to ensure safe operation, control and maintenance of HV systems in a mission-critical data centre setting.
You will uphold compliance with safety rules, manage permits, and lead safeguarding measures while maintaining power availability. The role requires 5–8 years in HV environments, certification as HV Authorised/Competent Person for 33kV, and experience with data centre or large industrial facilities.
The 33kV Competent Person is responsible for the safe operation, control and maintenance of high-voltage (HV) electrical systems within a mission-critical data center environment. The role ensures compliance with statutory regulations, approved safety rules and site-specific operational procedures while maintaining uninterrupted power availability to data centre infrastructure. This position requires a high level of technical expertise in HV systems, strong safety leadership and the ability to operate under strict uptime, change control and permit-to-work regimes typical of data centre operations.
Key responsibilities
Act as an Authorised / Competent Person for 33kV systems, in accordance with applicable HV safety rules and regulations.
Operate, isolate, energise, and restore 33kV switchgear, transformers, protection systems, and associated HV/LV distribution networks.
Issue, receive, and control Permits to Work, Sanctions for Test, and switching schedules in line with site safety rules.
Ensure strict adherence to Lock-Out / Tag-Out (LOTO), electrical safety, and risk assessment procedures.
Support planned maintenance, testing, and commissioning of HV assets, including coordination with OEMs and contractors.
Respond to electrical incidents, faults, and power disturbances, providing rapid diagnosis and safe system recovery.
Maintain accurate operational records, switching logs, maintenance documentation, and compliance reports.
Participate in change management processes, including method statements and risk assessments (RAMS).
Provide technical guidance and mentoring to engineers and technicians working on or around HV systems.
Support audits, inspections, and regulatory compliance activities related to HV operations.
About you
Formal HV Authorised Person / Competent Person certification for 33kV systems or equivalent, region-dependent.
Training in HV switching, safety rules, and permit systems.
Minimum 5-8 years of experience working with high-voltage electrical systems, including hands-on operational control.
Proven experience operating 33kV or similar HV networks.
Prior experience in data centre, critical infrastructure, utilities, power generation, or large industrial environments is strongly preferred.
