About The Experiment Digital
Virtual Exchanges ensure that every person can connect with the world beyond their community.
The Experiment Digital, an award-winning pioneer in virtual exchange programming, launched in 2016 as a virtual counterpart to The Experiment in International Living (Experiment). Our programs draw upon best practices in experiential learning accumulated over decades of Experiment programming. Initially launched to connect U.S. Experimenters with students in countries where travel and traditional programs were not possible, The Experiment Digital now provides a critical outlet for global exchange. Virtual exchanges expand the learning experience through accessible digital means, enabling an increasing number of young people to enjoy a meaningful global exchange experience as part of their education. Virtual exchanges also can enhance college readiness, expand employment opportunities, and further community activism.
New as of 2025, The Experiment Digital will offer two virtual programs to connect high school students across the United States and Latin America:
- Youth Leadership & Community Service | September 29 - November 23, 2025
- English-Spanish Language Exchange | February - April, 2026 (exact dates to be determined)
Each 8-week program combines synchronous and asynchronous activities. Using popular digital platforms like WhatsApp, Padlet, and Zoom, our virtual program model employs a range of activities to encompass all learning styles. The program is led by expert Digital Facilitators who have experience working with youth and facilitating language exchanges. To be eligible to participate, students must have a basic English level, be between 14 - 19 years old and currently be in high school or enrolled in high school.
