Job summary

Kohler Co. seeks a Packaging Engineer to identify cost-out opportunities using VAVE and total cost analysis. You will work with cross-functional teams to analyze data and execute cost reduction projects in packaging.

The role requires a Bachelor’s in Packaging Engineering, 2–4 years in cost-reduction initiatives, and CAD/materials proficiency. Fluent English and strong communication across global teams are essential.

Qualifications

• 2–4 years related work experience in cost reduction VA/VE projects.
• Demonstrated ability to drive engineering-based solutions to complex problems.
• Proficient knowledge of packaging materials and manufacturing processes.
• DFM principles applied to packaging design.
• Experience with Windchill and SAP is a plus.
• Ability to work globally with cross-functional teams.

Responsibilities

• Perform cost-out opportunity mining via Pareto analysis, benchmarking and tear down, site visits.
• Apply VAVE methodologies to identify cost reduction opportunities.
• Perform total cost benefit analyses and finalize annualized savings for projects.
• Develop CAD concepts and prototypes; coordinate development and verification testing.
• Create/update BOMs, submit ECNs, and release revised designs in Windchill and SAP.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure packaging changes meet regulations and standards.
• Create/update internal packaging standards as required.

BASIC FUNCTION

Identify Packaging cost out opportunity in a target-oriented manner through VAVE methodology and total cost analysis. Work with cross functional teams to identify, analyze and execute cost reduction VAVE projects.

Specific Responsibilities

• Perform cost out opportunity mining exercises by pareto analysis, competitor benchmarking and tear down, operations/distribution center site visits, etc.
• Apply VAVE methodologies and tools to identify cost reduction opportunities.
• Perform total cost benefit analysis and finalize annualized savings for given projects.
• Develop alternative design concept prototypes and CAD drawings using design software. Coordinate the development and verification testing of alternative designs.
• Create/update BOMs, submit engineering change requests and release the revised designs in Windchill and SAP.
• Work with cross functional teams to ensure packaging changes are compliant with regional/global packaging regulations, operations processes, internal packaging standards, sustainability goals, and customer requirements.
• Create/update internal packaging standards as required.

Education And Experience Requirements

• Bachelor's Degree in Packaging Engineering
• A minimum of 2-4 years related work experience in execution of cost reduction VA/VE, Continuous Design Improvement projects.
• Demonstrated ability to drive solid engineering based solutions to complex problems.
• Proficient knowledge of manufacturing processes of all packaging material types such as corrugated, honeycomb, molded pulp, foams, films, wood, sustainable materials (reusable, recyclable, compostable).
• Basic knowledge of product materials and manufacturing processes such as plastic injection molding, ceramics casting processes, etc preferred but not required.
• Demonstrated expertise to apply DFM principles (manufacturability, assembly, safety, cost) to packaging design.
• Must have good communication skills to work globally with cross function teams.
• Fluent in English language.
• Proficient in ArtiosCAD, Adobe Illustrator, CAPE, PTC Creo Software & MS Office tools.
