Descripción del empleo

Essential Functions/Duties
  • Design initial molding tool concepts, perform tool DFM analysis, provide DFM guidance to product design engineers, and collaborate with tool shops during tool design, construction, and validation.
  • Lead tooling meetings and design reviews with tooling suppliers. Track and maintain records of all tools being developed, including key milestones, and report progress to the Director of Engineering.
  • Maintain the OPmobility Modules Americas Injection Molding Tool Design Standard and share it with suppliers as needed.
  • Validate injection tool concepts, review and finalize tool designs from suppliers, and approve Mold Flow and Warp Analysis results.
  • Offer expert opinions on tooling materials, cavitation, and surface finishes, considering lifetime volume and cycle times. Manage the design and manufacture of new molds, including End of Arm Tools and coating/metalizing tooling.
  • Collaborate with the Program Manager and Director of Engineering to develop tooling timelines aligned with major program milestones, providing regular updates and mitigating delays.
  • Guide the design engineering team early in the process to optimize tooling costs by suggesting alternative design features.
  • Work with the purchasing team to review supplier quotes, analyze cost factors, and optimize quotations.
  • Support trial runs, FOTs, and tooling sign-offs.
  • Maintain issue lists for each mold, EOAT, fixture, etc., under your responsibility.
  • Travel to plants, suppliers, and future sites as necessary, including international travel.
  • Resolve manufacturing problems related to injection molding and stamping processes.
  • Supervise suppliers and document the execution of automation equipment, end-of-arm tools, injection molding machines, and other tooling.
  • Train, mentor, and develop process engineers and technicians for optimal injection molding operations.
  • Provide feedback to design engineering on tooling and processing practices based on lessons learned and industry standards.
  • Develop and monitor key process indicators for HBPO injection molding operations.
  • Participate in project meetings and one-on-one meetings with the RD Director.
  • Perform other responsibilities as assigned by the RD Director.
Candidate Must Have
  • At least 5 years of experience in injection molding tooling design, with a strong background in injection-molded structural automotive parts.
  • Experience with analytical validation of injection tooling concepts using simulation tools like Moldflow Analysis.
  • Proven record of tool design, development tracking, and progress monitoring using project schedules and milestones.
  • Support experience for tool trial runs and process optimization for parts to meet print specifications.
  • BSc in Mechanical Engineering (BSME) or equivalent; self-starter capable of working independently and preparing management reports.
  • Strong knowledge of polymers and their behavior during injection molding (rheology).
Strong Plus
  • Knowledge and experience with metal stampings.
  • Support in purchasing activities related to tool sourcing and cost estimation.
