Job Summary

The Storage & Backup Engineer is responsible for the design, implementation, maintenance, and support of enterprise storage and backup systems. This role ensures data availability, integrity, and recoverability in accordance with organizational needs and compliance requirements.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, deploy, and manage enterprise storage solutions (SAN, NAS, DAS) to meet performance, scalability, and availability requirements.
  • Implement and manage backup and recovery systems, ensuring data is securely and reliably backed up.
  • Perform regular backup testing, disaster recovery drills, and data restoration to validate recoverability.
  • Monitor system performance, capacity, and health, and proactively resolve any issues.
  • Manage and maintain storage and backup policies, schedules, and configurations.
  • Ensure data security and compliance with industry standards and organizational policies.
  • Work closely with application, database, and systems teams to ensure optimal storage and backup performance.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve issues related to storage and backup infrastructure.
  • Maintain documentation of systems, configurations, and procedures.
  • Evaluate and recommend new technologies to improve storage and backup operations.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field.
  • 3+ years of experience in storage and backup administration.
  • Hands-on experience with enterprise storage systems (e.g., NetApp, Dell EMC, HPE 3PAR, Pure Storage).
  • Strong knowledge of backup technologies (e.g., Veeam, Commvault, Veritas NetBackup, Rubrik).
  • Familiarity with cloud storage and backup solutions (e.g., AWS S3, Azure Blob, Google Cloud Storage).
  • Proficiency in Windows and Linux operating systems.
  • Experience with storage protocols (e.g., iSCSI, Fibre Channel, NFS, SMB/CIFS).
  • Scripting skills (PowerShell, Bash, or Python) for automation tasks.

Preferred Skills

  • Certifications such as NetApp NCDA, EMC Proven Professional, Veeam VMCE, or similar.
  • Experience with virtualization platforms (e.g., VMware, Hyper-V).
  • Knowledge of disaster recovery planning and business continuity practices.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work independently or in a team environment.
