Overview

Technical Consulting Engineer - Firewall is a role within Cisco's Security TAC. The team provides 2nd/3rd level technical support worldwide 24 x 7 x 365 to Cisco customers, partners, account teams, and other TAC engineers. The role focuses on reactive measures, including diagnostics, analysis, problem solving, and recommendations, with opportunities to deepen technology knowledge across a broad range of topics.

  • Frequently supports TCEs and Global Delivery Partners with critical scenarios, delivering effective communication to provide long-term solutions to customers.
  • Collaborates with internal teams (Engineering, Developing, and Account teams) to ensure high-quality, timely responses to critical scenarios, prioritizing customer operations.
  • Takes ownership of building and maintaining relationships with customers and internal partners based on TAC metrics.
  • Recognizes and documents patterns in software products, produces accurate documentation, and mentors teammates to enhance content creation.
Responsibilities
  • Provide 2nd/3rd line technical support for firewall-related issues and security solutions.
  • Diagnose, analyze, troubleshoot, and recommend timely resolutions for complex customer problems.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver effective solutions and communicate status to stakeholders.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Possess 4+ years of technical support experience in networking with advanced knowledge of routers, switches, and firewalls.
  • Advanced troubleshooting skills in BGP, PBR, NAT, OSPF, ACL, DNS, ARP Inspection and IPSec concepts; TCP vs. UDP; HTTP/HTTPS; DHCP; IPv4/IPv6; API; Virtualization; Multi-Cloud Environments.
  • Advanced knowledge of software languages and distributions such as SQL, Monet DB, Linux, or similar.
  • Advanced troubleshooting methodologies and problem-solving for complex, non-linear scenarios.
  • Experience with tools such as Wireshark, packet analyzers, coding/decoding, and TCP/IP packet analysis.

Possess an English level equivalent to B2 or higher.

Be able to attend the office at least 2 to 3 days per week

Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in a technical field (e.g., Computer Science, Electronics Engineering, Telecommunication).
  • Possesses Cisco Certified Securing Networks with Cisco Firewalls or 300-710 SNCF, or Cisco Certified Network Professional Security.
  • Prior experience/working knowledge in related areas listed, including ASA firewalls & VASA, FTD/Firepower/FMC, APIs methods, server and appliance virtualization (VMWare, MS Hyper-V, KVM), database knowledge (Azure, MariaDB, SQL), scripting (Python, Perl, Bash), design/deployment/debugging of networks, and multi-cloud environments (Azure, Google Cloud, AWS).
