A global software company is seeking a Sustaining Operations Engineer to work in a fast-paced Linux-based environment. Responsibilities include resolving complex customer issues related to Ubuntu, OpenStack, Ceph, and Kubernetes, with a focus on maintaining relationships within the company. Candidates should possess strong troubleshooting skills, particularly with advanced Linux systems, and have the willingness to travel for team-related events.

Formación

  • Professional experience troubleshooting advanced Linux issues.
  • Ability to troubleshoot with gdb, pdb, tcpdump or other tools.
  • Willingness to travel up to 4 times a year for internal events.

Responsabilidades

  • Resolve complex customer problems related to Ubuntu, OpenStack, Ceph and/or Kubernetes.
  • Maintain close relationships with Canonical’s field, support and product engineering teams.
  • Participate in upstream communities and debug issues.

Sustaining Operations Engineer

Join Canonical as a Sustaining Operations Engineer and work in a fast‑paced engineering environment in Linux‑based software‑defined infrastructure. Covering all layers of the stack – bare metal, virtualization (KVM), containerization (Docker & LXC/LXD), storage (Ceph, Linux filesystems), networking (OVS, OVN, Core networking), OpenStack, Kubernetes, and open‑source applications running on top of them.

Location: Globally remote.

Responsibilities
  • Resolve complex customer problems related to Ubuntu, OpenStack, Ceph and/or Kubernetes.
  • Maintain close relationships with Canonical’s field, support and product engineering teams.
  • Participate in upstream communities, debug issues, propose workarounds and liaise with Software Engineers on producing patches.
  • Demonstrate good judgment in technical methods and techniques.
  • Prioritize work and manage time effectively against priorities.
  • Participate in team activities to improve processes, tools, and documentation.
  • Maintain clear, technical and concise communications.
  • Participate in a regular weekend working rotation.
  • Provide subject‑matter expertise as the final point of escalation on operational issues.
  • Work from home and travel internationally up to 10% of work time for team meetings, events and conferences.
Qualifications
  • Professional experience troubleshooting advanced Linux issues.
  • Background in Computer Science, STEM or similar.
  • Exceptionally strong experience with either Linux, LXD, OpenStack, Ceph or Kubernetes.
  • Strong debugging experience with Python, Go, C or C++ on Linux.
  • Ability to troubleshoot with gdb, pdb, tcpdump or other tools.
  • Familiarity with git source‑code repositories and branches.
  • Exceptional academic track record from high school and preferably university.
  • Willingness to travel up to 4 times a year for internal events.
