Description

This position is responsible for maintaining and conserving bridges and culverts in good condition, so that trains and track equipment pass through them safely.

Accountabilities

1. Inspects the bridges and culverts of the assigned territory, to know the physical conditions of these, preparing a report on each one of them.
2. Prepares conservation and maintenance programs.
3. Supervises both the work of the bridge crews, as well as the work of third parties.
4. Coordinates work that require special attention in their execution, such as: assembly and/or relief of girders, protection of embankments, etc.
5. Addresses emergencies, such as bridge fires, landslides, derailments.
6. Conducts tours with the Regulatory Agency (SCT) for verifications.
7. Delivers reports as scheduled (daily, weekly, biweekly, monthly, annual, etc.).
8. Demonstrates operational excellence by knowing and applying the business requirements. Demonstrates customer focus and contingency planning to ensure stakeholder expectations are met.
9. Understands the relevant business metrics and applies effective tactics to sustain a culture of operational effectiveness that produces teams of high performing, engaged and empowered operational leaders.
10. Identifies when a rule/regulation/policy has been violated and has one-on-one accountability conversations with an individual who has not met expectations, using KCS Candor, Aligning the Stars & KCS ABC's, and have the individual produce better results.

Required

Ideal Candidate Qualifications

1. Bachelor's degree from an accredited university or college, preferably in a job related major field of study.
2. Minimum five (5) years of relevant professional experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
3. Knowledge of Steel and Concrete Structures.
4. Knowledge and command of Autocad.
5. Computational Packages.

Preferred

1. Civil engineer.
2. Experience: 2 years in construction and/or maintenance of bridges.
3. Previous Kansas City Southern experience.

Working Conditions

1. Physical condition to get on and off high bridges.
2. Shift work is an essential function of this job. Employees must have the ability and willingness to support critically important railroad operations 24 hours per day/7 days per week, working various shifts as assigned. Schedule assignments may include after-hours, weekends and holidays.
3. Business travel is an essential requirement of this job. Employees must be able and willing to travel away from their primary work location up to 50% of the time.
