Overview

General Description:

The Deputy Director of Labor Relations will be responsible for designing, implementing, and overseeing the company’s labor strategy in Mexico, ensuring strong relationships with unions, labor authorities, and employees. This role will lead collective bargaining negotiations and ensure alignment of labor policies and practices across the plants in Aguascalientes and Cuernavaca, contributing to organizational stability and compliance within a highly competitive and transnational automotive environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design and execute the national labor relations strategy in alignment with global corporate objectives.
  • Lead and coordinate union collective negotiations across plants, ensuring a balance between competitiveness, legal compliance, and constructive union relations.
  • Ensure consistency and alignment in labor policies, practices, and processes among our Nissan Plants and Union Contracts.
  • Manage relationships with local and federal labor authorities, representing the company in official proceedings when required.
  • Anticipate and mitigate labor risks through proactive conflict prevention, effective communication, and union engagement strategies.
  • Conduct labor diagnostics, employee climate surveys, and action plans to strengthen workplace culture and reduce risks of union conflict.
  • Develop the strategy and deploy labor-related Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) to assess organizational stability and efficiency.
  • Lead, develop, and motivate labor relations teams across different locations, ensuring high standards of performance, collaboration, and professionalism.
  • Stay up to date with Mexican labor legislation and ensure full compliance across all operations.
  • Collaborate with HR, Operations, and Finance teams on strategic projects impacting workforce stability and business profitability.
Education/Certifications
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Law, Industrial Relations, Human Resources, or related field (Master’s degree preferred).
  • Experience: Minimum of 5 years in senior labor relations or related roles, preferably within the automotive, manufacturing, or multinational sectors.
  • Languages: Advanced English proficiency (oral and written).
  • Leadership: Proven track record in managing large and diverse teams.
  • Technical Competencies:
  • In-depth knowledge of Mexican labor law, including recent reforms.
  • Strong experience in collective bargaining negotiations.
  • Ability to manage complex union relations effectively.
Previous Work Experience
  • At least 5 years of experience in similar role, in an international organization.
Other Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Language: Englishà Fluent (written, spoken and listen)
  • Travel %: 40-50% time
Must have
  • Presentation skills (written and spoken) in Spanish and English
  • Knowledge of Automotive Industry
  • Experiencia liderando equipos sindicalizados y no sindicalizados
