Job description

Why Join Ford of Mexico?

Celebrating over 100 years of legacy in Mexico, we are more than just a business we are a vibrant, collaborative community of over 14,000 innovators shaping the global future of transportation. At Ford, we build what matters, grow where it counts, and drive progress with heart. Whether you are collaborating at our state-of-the-art Global Technology and Business Center (GTBC) or manufacturing iconic, award-winning vehicles in our world-class plants, you will find a culture evolving together, built on trust, passion, and shared purpose. Here, your work moves people forward, and your growth is personal. Join us, and let's build what's next together.

Job Description

As part of the Chassis Product Development organization, you will engineer robust, innovative, and high-quality steering systems that define vehicle dynamics, precision handling, and driver safety across our global portfolio. In this role, you will serve as the technical authority for steering components and sub-systems throughout their entire lifecycle. You will lead design, validation, and release activities while collaborating with global engineering centers, manufacturing assembly plants, and Tier-1 suppliers to deliver best-in-class chassis solutions for current and next-generation vehicle programs.

Responsibilities

What you'll do:

  • Lead the end-to-end design, packaging, and engineering release of steering system components from initial concept through vehicle launch and production.
  • Define and execute Design Verification Plans (DVP&R), durability testing, and functional assessments on bench, Hardware-in-the-Loop (HIL), and prototype vehicle levels.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional engineering teams—including software, vehicle dynamics, CAD, and manufacturing—to integrate steering controls, calibration, and hardware seamlessly.
  • Partner with procurement and Tier-1 suppliers throughout technical sourcing, statement of work reviews, prototype delivery, and tooling sign-off.
  • Conduct structured root-cause investigations (using 8D, DFMEA, and Six Sigma methodologies) and analyze CAN bus diagnostic data to prevent and resolve plant and field warranty issues.
  • Manage engineering Bills of Materials (BOM) and lead engineering change management processes to maintain build accuracy, quality standards, and program cost targets.
Qualifications

You'll have:

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, Automotive Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Typically 3 to 7 years of product engineering experience in automotive chassis, electro-mechanical systems, or steering component development.
  • Working knowledge of vehicle network protocols (CAN/LIN), vehicle diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs), and data acquisition tools (e.g., Vector CANoe/CANalyzer).
  • Hands-on experience with 3D CAD modeling software (e.g., CATIA, Siemens NX) and Product Lifecycle Management/BOM tools (e.g., Teamcenter).
  • Solid understanding of automotive quality core tools (APQP, PPAP, DFMEA, Control Plans) and structured problem-solving methodologies (8D, 5-Why, Ishikawa).
  • Professional-level English proficiency with strong cross-functional communication and supplier management skills.
Even better, you may have...
  • Master's degree in Mechanical, Mechatronics, or Automotive Engineering.
  • Six Sigma Green Belt or Black Belt certification.
  • Experience with modeling, simulation, or scripting tools such as MATLAB, Simulink, or Minitab.
  • Hands-on experience launching chassis components in high-volume automotive assembly plants.
