Verato Inc. in Mérida, Yucatán, México is seeking a software engineer with Java/Spring Boot experience to join our microservices team. The role requires relocation within 60 days if not local, with a relocation bonus of 42,500 MNX pesos to assist the move.

Ideal candidates have 5+ years in Java, API design experience, and a strong background in automated testing, CI/CD, and scalable cloud-native systems. This on-site role offers growth in a fast-moving healthcare technology company.

Description

This position is based in Mérida, Yucatán, México. If you do not live in/around Merida, and are still interested in this position, relocation will be required within 60 days of accepting this position. Verato will provide a relocation bonus of $42,500 MNX pesos to help with your move.

Requirements

To fulfill the responsibilities of this position, expertise or knowledge in the following areas is required:

1. Technical Skills

• Microservices Development Proficiency in Java (Spring Boot): Ability to design, develop, and maintain microservices using Java and the Spring Boot framework.


• OpenAPI Specifications: Familiarity with documenting APIs using OpenAPI/Swagger for smooth interaction and testing of RESTful web services.


• JPA (Java Persistence API) & Relational Databases: Experience with ORM frameworks, particularly JPA, for interacting with relational databases. Hands-on experience with PostgreSQL, including writing complex queries, optimizing performance, and ensuring data integrity.


• NoSQL Databases: Experience designing and querying NoSQL databases (e.g., MongoDB) for handling unstructured and semi-structured data at scale.


• Distributed Systems & Performance Troubleshooting: Knowledge of designing scalable and maintainable microservices architectures, understanding the challenges of distributed systems, and ability to troubleshoot and optimize microservices and databases for performance.


• CI/CD (Continuous Integration/Continuous Deployment): Experience in configuring Jenkins pipelines for continuous integration and deployment, including automation of build, test, and deployment processes.


• Security Awareness: Understanding of basic security principles and implementation practices for microservices (e.g., OAuth2, JWT, SSL/TLS, etc.).


• Automated Testing (unit, integration, end-to-end): Familiarity with testing frameworks (JUnit, Mockito) and a strong commitment to writing unit, integration, and end-to-end tests.

2. Experience & Knowledge

• 5+ years professional experience in a software engineering role with primary experience in Java


• API Design: Experience in designing and developing RESTful APIs with proper versioning, security, and documentation.


• Automated Testing: Proficiency with testing frameworks and a strong commitment to writing comprehensive unit, integration, and end-to-end tests.


• End-to-End Design & Delivery Ownership: Demonstrated ability to own and deliver features and systems end-to-end, from design through production deployment.


• Technical Leadership & Mentoring: Experience mentoring engineers, contributing to code reviews, and influencing technical decisions and architectural direction.


• Production Systems Support & Troubleshooting: Experience supporting and troubleshooting production systems, including incident response and optimization.

3. Soft Skills

• Problem-Solving: Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills, with an ability to resolve complex issues in a microservices architecture.


• Collaboration: Team-oriented mindset with a history of collaborating with cross-functional teams, including DevOps, QA, and product management.


• Communication: Clear and effective communication skills, both verbal and written, especially when dealing with distributed teams.


• Time Management: Ability to manage time effectively, make progress on multiple tasks, and meet deadlines.

4. Preferred Qualifications

• Event Streaming Platforms: Experience with Kafka or other event streaming platforms for real-time data processing.


• Python: Proficiency in Python, particularly for scripting tasks related to automation, testing, and integration.


• Cloud Technologies (AWS & GCP): Solid understanding of cloud services (EC2, S3, RDS, Lambda, etc.) and how to deploy, manage, and scale applications on AWS and/or GCP.


• Containers & Kubernetes: Practical knowledge of Kubernetes for container orchestration, deployment, scaling, and management of containerized applications. Familiarity with Helm for managing Kubernetes applications through templated deployments.


• Identity & Access Management (SSO/SAML/OIDC): Understanding of implementing access control for Single Sign-On (SSO), identity management, and authorization. Familiarity with federation protocols such as SAML and/or OIDC.


• Cloud Native Development: Familiarity with building cloud-native applications and understanding of cloud best practices.


• Docker: Hands-on experience with Docker for containerizing applications.


• Agile Methodology: Experience working in an Agile/Scrum environment.


• MDM: Experience working with or building Master Data Management systems.

5. Education & Certifications

• Bachelor’s degree: Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field (preferred)


• Cloud Certifications: AWS Certified Developer, Solutions Architect or equivalent (preferred)


• Java Certifications: Oracle Certified Professional, Java SE (preferred)
