Provides subject matter expertise in engineering that improves product, process, and/or equipment performance (cost, quality, and service) and/or advances the innovation process to enable the delivery of new products. Provides solutions for increased process efficiency, material utilization, decreased costs, and improved product quality by planning, organizing, and implementing projects. Is a leader in obtaining fundamental process understanding and meeting the lowest cost producer objectives.

Designs and analyzes first-generation / next-generation products, processes, and/or equipment in support of new product / technology introduction. Maintains knowledge of the latest developments in their area of expertise to identify and document any intellectual property developed as part of a project.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provides leadership in problem solving and technical expertise to ensure timely resolution of short-term process and equipment issues, and higher-level troubleshooting.
  • Provides direction to other technicians / engineers, coaches junior engineers, and offers guidance to maintenance personnel.
  • Offers general engineering and manufacturing skills and knowledge (understands theories and fundamentals), and is capable of leading projects to identify root causes and implement permanent solutions.
  • Provides disciplined project leadership across multiple stages of innovation for new product, process, cost reduction, and capacity improvement initiatives.
  • Recommends and implements permanent solutions to long-term performance issues and enhances existing and new technologies and processes.
  • Develops and leads specific areas of the manufacturing and/or technical roadmap. Documents material, process, and/or equipment to protect and contribute to intellectual property.
  • Proficient in statistical data analysis and DOE for process problem solving and improvement.
  • Identifies, justifies, and implements cost reduction, capacity enhancement, capital equipment, and other improvement initiatives.
  • Introduces new products and technologies.
  • Ensures compliance with Environmental, Safety, and Health requirements.
  • Develops SME knowledge of material, process, and/or equipment in focused manufacturing or engineering areas.
  • Tracks project effectiveness and cost reductions using metrics like uptime, cost, and productivity.
  • Acts as a leader and SME in process control/discipline, SPC, SQC, OEE, DOE, and other Performance Excellence processes (Green and Black-belt skills).
  • Designs and/or specifies new equipment or modifies existing equipment for continuous process improvement. Coordinates installation, debugging, and initial operation of new equipment and systems.
Experiences/Education - Required
  • Bachelor of Science or equivalent in a technical field.
  • Yellow Belt Training.
  • Proven track record of delivering results.
  • Broad manufacturing and engineering experiences.
  • Project leadership from scope to implementation.
  • Experience coaching and developing junior engineers/technicians.
  • Manufacturing Workshops (MPIW or equivalent).
  • Bachelor of Science (Engineering) or Master of Science (Engineering or Applied Science).
  • Black belt (Six Sigma or Innovation) training.
  • Knowledge of project and manufacturing financial management.
  • Understanding of Innovation Stage-gate processes.
