A leading berry production company is seeking a Senior Agronomist to support organic berry production. The role involves collaborating with teams, training local agronomy colleagues, and managing travel to various operations. Candidates should possess a relevant degree and extensive experience in organic production, alongside strong bilingual communication skills. This position offers the opportunity to influence sustainable practices in the soft fruit industry.

Formación

  • Minimum of 8 years’ experience in the soft fruit industry preferred.
  • Minimum of 5+ years’ Organic production experience required.
  • Current driver’s license and valid passport required.

Responsabilidades

Overview

Being part of the Global Agronomy Tech Transfer team (GATT), this organic driven role will help to support knowledge transfer activities across the different business units by translating the business unit needs and opportunities to a relevant knowledge/technology solutions and adoption. This exciting role will help to create, maintain and champion an open collaborative environment that is conducive to knowledge and technology sharing with all necessary stakeholders, maintaining interconnectivity between tech transfer team members and sharing knowledge and deployment between nursery and fruit production. Robust knowledge about the available proprietary genetics and their commercial potential across regions, climates, production, and organic nursery systems will be a key area to develop within this role.

Responsibilities
  • Foster, build strong working relationships and collaborate with fruit Agronomy Tech Transfer and Applied Research teams.
  • Identify knowledge gaps and facilitate or train directly Local agronomy colleagues in the execution of key organic production processes and techniques to elevate uniformity and consistency of fruit production systems across different business units.
  • Act as a conduit to connect all relevant parties to key initiatives and opportunities for collaboration and networking.
  • Work with operations/applied research team members to gather information on regional best management practices and cultivation guides for key farming practices and use these to benchmark, refine, and standardize best practice globally.
  • Enable the deployment of innovations and sustainable growing methods that foster automation, mechanization and increased efficiencies required to deliver farming excellence, and ultimately deliver more berries with less resources.
  • Work with GATT lead to identify the knowledge packages that augment the genetic value of genetic cultivar, maintaining an understanding of Driscoll’s breeding programs, nursery and production systems and environments.
  • Plan all global travel with GATT lead and be prepared to travel independently to visit Driscoll’s farming operations across different business units.
  • Write and share comprehensive and succinct reports after each visit.
  • Help plan and facilitate visitor nursery trips to his/her own or other host countries/regions.
  • Follows company policies and practices while representing Driscoll’s in an ethical and business-like manner in all interactions with employees, governmental agencies, growers, customers, etc.
  • Ensures the security of Driscoll’s confidential and proprietary information and materials.
Candidate Profile
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Horticulture, Horticultural Science, Agronomy, Ag Business Management or related field, or equivalent experience in production management.
  • Minimum of 8 years’ experience in the soft fruit industry is preferred.
  • Minimum of 5+ years’ Organic production experience required.
  • Strong business knowledge of fruit production and nursery activities, production management, agronomy, grower economics, research, product quality/food safety, and customer service.
  • Bilingual skills in English and Spanish required.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills required.
  • Travel required (up to 50% nationally and internationally).
  • Current driver’s license and valid passport required.
