Spanish Video Remote Interpreter (VRI)

Job Title: Spanish Interpreter

Location: Remote, work from home in Mexico

Job Type: Independent Contractor

Position Overview:

The Spanish Medical VRI is responsible for handling on-demand audio and video calls to serve our limited English proficient (LEP) community and practitioners in various industries such as Healthcare, Government, Community, Education, etc.

Job Functions
  1. Provide effective video and audio interpreting sessions professionally.
  2. Capture company-provided data during interpreting sessions when required.
  3. Adapt quickly to new and changing technologies.
  4. Follow interpreter ethical standards and procedural requirements specific to interpreting contexts.
  5. Demonstrate cultural sensitivity and inclusivity in a diverse environment.
  6. Respect and understand LEP clients, their culture, dialect, beliefs, and preferences.
  7. Show a strong aptitude and passion for customer service and interpreting.
  8. Maintain professionalism throughout sessions.
  9. Speak clearly in both languages with proper pronunciation and polite expressions.
  10. Render accurate concepts and meanings according to interpreter protocol.
Qualifications
  1. Fluent in both Spanish and English, with strong verbal communication skills.
  2. Excellent listening, retention, and note-taking skills for accuracy.
  3. Successful completion of a proficiency assessment or national certification.
  4. Knowledge of ethics and standards of practice (IMIA, NBCMI, NCIHC).
  5. HIPAA compliant work environment.
  6. At least 18 years of age.
Preferred Qualifications
  1. Ability to read and write in the required languages.
  2. Degree or certifications in interpreting practices.
  3. National Medical Interpreter Certification (CCHI, NBCMI, DSHS).
  4. Accredited Medical Interpreting Training (e.g., ALTA, MITS, Bridging the Gap, MiTio, Cross-Cultural training, 40-hour courses).
Technical Requirements
  1. High-speed internet connection (cable or fiber preferred).
  2. HIPAA compliant workspace with a lockable door.
  3. Computer connected directly to the modem.
  4. Home office with a blue or green backdrop.
  5. Quiet, distraction-free workspace.
