Columbus Mc Kinnon Corporation in Monterrey, Mexico, seeks a Sourcing Specialist to drive strategic procurement for new product development and production. You will collaborate with Product Management, Engineering and Quality to select suppliers, negotiate terms, and ensure supplier performance across engineered assemblies, metals and components.

The role requires supplier development, cost optimization, risk management and strong cross-functional coordination to support global sourcing

Formación

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Supply Chain or equivalent.
  • 5+ years of procurement/strategic sourcing experience.
  • Willingness to travel up to 20% domestically and internationally.
  • Organized with a high sense of urgency.

Responsabilidades

  • Drive strategic procurement decisions with Product Management, Engineering and Quality.
  • Collaborate and negotiate with suppliers on cost, delivery, terms and service.
  • Lead Buy vs. Make decisions with NPD and Manufacturing teams; assess suppliers for capacity and quality.
  • Develop and document DFMEA/PFMEA, PPAP and quality plans with suppliers.
  • Identify and qualify suppliers to meet global operations and localization goals.
  • Create supplier risk registers and mitigation plans.

Job Summary/Overview

Location: Monterrey, Mexico.

Position: Sourcing Specialist

Position Overview: The Sourcing Specialist creates, documents, and implements procurement plans within the scope of new product development projects and current production; also, identifies, develops and qualifies suppliers of raw materials, fabricated parts, and components in close collaboration with the NPD and Manufacturing Operations Teams. The scope of the role is to support the procurement needs of the new product development team and the plant´s purchasing team, across all commodities – engineered assemblies, hardware, coatings, castings, forgings, machined parts, electrical and electronic components. This is a liaison between Procurement, Quality, Engineering and Suppliers. The role also includes collaboration with category managers to implement the overall global sourcing and procurement strategies.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Drive strategic procurement decisions in coordination with Product Management, Engineering, and Quality.
  • Collaborate and negotiate with suppliers to achieve the material cost, delivery conditions, payment terms, and service requirements.
  • Lead “Buy vs. Make” decisions in collaboration with the NPD, Industrialization and manufacturing Operations Teams. Analyze, propose, and qualify suppliers in terms of capacity, commercial viability, logistics, financial strength, quality systems, management strength, technical and after sales support.
  • Collaborate in the creation of DFMEA and PFMEA documentation, part/component qualification plans, PPAP, and quality plans.
  • Locate and develop suppliers to meet the technical requirements of Global operations. Drive localization of suppliers in accordance with global sourcing and procurement strategies.
  • Create and formally document a supplier risk register with the corresponding mitigation plan.
  • Collaborate with NPD on the identification of material specifications and/or component specifications that may improve the cost or reduce the risk from the supplier perspective. These may include nominal values, tolerances, material compositions, treatments, dimensions, features, scrap avoidance, etc.
  • Collaborate with Project Managers, suppliers, and Engineering in creating documented project timelines, work packages, as well as detailed schedules and project expense estimations for each phase within the Product Development Process.
  • Collaborate with the Project Manager on building and deploying a Communication Plan to project stakeholders.
  • Create PO’s, monitor supplier OTD, conformance to quality and supplier scorecards.
  • Ensure that PO’s are placed for samples, PPAP requirements are met, and trial builds are conducted on a timely basis, ensure supplier OTD, and that all appropriate documentation is provided with submission of PPAP samples
  • Other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, Competencies, and Abilities
  • Knowledge and skills in negotiation practices, industrial product costing, total-cost-of-ownership calculations and industrial commercial terms negotiation.
  • Knowledge of mass production fabrication and assembly processes, ISO 9000/QS9000 certification requirements.
  • Knowledge and ability to develop suppliers and procure from them in a low volume and high mix environment (LVHM).
  • Logistics knowledge, import/export concepts and practices, warehousing, and transportation.
  • Basic knowledge of machining, casting, and forging processes.
  • Basic knowledge of the steel and metal alloys industrial supply base.
  • Knowledge of industrial electric motors and motor control elements and the respective supply bases.
  • Basic knowledge of electric and electronic components.
  • Ability to maintain focus on priorities and maintain a high sense of urgency on NPD projects.

Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing theory and practices. Ability to participate in kaizen events, Root-Cause-Counter-Measure (RCCM), and problem-solving 8D sessions

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Supply Chain or equivalent experience and education.
  • 5+ years of experience in procurement and/or strategic sourcing (supplier development).
  • Willingness to travel domestically and internationally up to 20% of the time.
  • Organized, and high sense of urgency.
