The Incentives Development Team

The Incentives Development team is dedicated to driving innovation and excellence in every project. Position Overview

As a Staff Backend Software Developer, you will be part of a multidisciplinary team of developers, designers, data scientists, and business professionals. You will work on the Varicent Incentives: a single-page web application using React and Redux that connects to a REST API written in C#, hosted in AWS.

What You’ll Do
  • Build new features for the REST API and enhance the AWS infrastructure on top of a modern tech stack using C# and AWS CloudFormation.
  • Work with product management, designers, and QA to implement new features and enhancements.
  • Participate as a reviewer in our pull request process, ensuring high code quality and sharing insights with the team.
  • Optimize application performance for scalability and low latency across large datasets.
  • Develop features using AWS tools such as Lambda, S3, DynamoDB, and Redshift.
  • Automate deployments and CI/CD pipelines using Infrastructure-as-Code technologies.
  • Identify and resolve bottlenecks to ensure high availability and uptime.
Technical Skills
  • 7+ years of backend development experience, focusing on data-intensive applications.
  • Proficiency in at least one backend language (e.g., C#, Java, C++).
  • Experience with AWS services (EC2, S3, Lambda, RDS, Redshift).
  • Understanding of ELT/ETL processes and challenges in handling large-scale data.
  • Understanding of software design fundamentals.
  • Problem-solving skills and a passion for clean, maintainable code.
Collaboration & Communication
  • English communication skills and ability to work effectively in cross-functional teams. B2 level English or higher is required.
First 30 Days: Getting Started
  • Learn and get familiar with our development process, codebase, coding standards, and tools.
  • Participate in team meetings, collaborate with colleagues, and effectively communicate progress and challenges.
  • Complete small well-defined tasks or bug fixes to demonstrate ability to write good code.
First 60 Days: Building Momentum
  • Become more independent in handling assigned tasks, requiring less supervision and guidance.
  • Take on more complex assignments, such as implementing new features or modules.
  • Demonstrate improved ability to troubleshoot and resolve issues efficiently.
  • Adhere to coding standards, produce well-documented and maintainable code, and participate in code reviews.
  • Collaborate with the team and provide valuable input during discussions.
First 90 Days: Hitting Your Stride
  • Lead the development of a larger feature or service critical to the ICM application.
  • Ensure scalability and reliability through rigorous testing and performance tuning.
  • Have a firm grasp of how the critical parts of the application work and be able to troubleshoot defects with minimal assistance.
  • Meet project deadlines and deliver high-quality work.
  • Learn continuously and stay up-to-date with industry trends and new technologies.
  • Identify areas for process improvement and suggest solutions to enhance efficiency and productivity.
  • Participate in roadmap discussions and cost estimation efforts for future development work.

  • This role requires employees to work within Eastern Standard Time (EST) business hours. Candidates outside EST may be considered but should be prepared to adjust working hours to align with EST for collaboration.
