ISP Technology Middle School TeacherRole Profile

Purpose of Role

The purpose of the role of a Middle School Technology Teacher is to introduce students to foundational concepts in technology, digital literacy, and responsible technology use. This role supports students' development of 21st-century skills, preparing them for high school, higher education, and an increasingly digital world.

ISP Technology Middle School Key Responsibilities

  • Build Digital Literacy
    Teach students how to use computers, software, and the internet safely, responsibly, and effectively.
  • Introduce Foundational Technology Skills
    Provide instruction in areas like typing, coding, multimedia production, robotics, basic computer science, and productivity tools (e.g., Google Workspace or Microsoft Office).
  • Promote Critical Thinking & Problem Solving
    Use technology projects to develop students' ability to think logically, analyze data, and solve real-world problems.
  • Support Responsible Digital Citizenship
    Guide students in understanding online safety, cyberbullying prevention, digital etiquette, and the ethical use of technology.
  • Enhance Learning Across the Curriculum
    Collaborate with other teachers to integrate technology into various subjects, making learning more engaging and interactive.
  • Prepare Students for Future Opportunities
    Lay the groundwork for high school tech courses, STEM pathways, and future careers in technology.

Skills:

TechnologyProficiency

  • Comfortable with a range of hardware and software (e.g., Chromebooks, tablets, coding platforms, educational software).
  • Familiarity with programming languages (e.g., Scratch, Python, HTML/CSS, JavaScript) and robotics platforms (e.g., LEGO EV3, VEX).

Classroom Management

  • Ability to maintain a safe, respectful, and engaging learning environment.

InstructionalDesign

  • Capable of creating age-appropriate, interactive lessons that align with curriculum standards.

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills for interacting with students, parents, and colleagues.

Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in Education, Instructional Technology, Computer Science, or a related field.

Experience:

  • Teaching experience at the middle school level (1–3 years typically preferred).
  • Experience designing and delivering lessons using educational technology tools (e.g., Google Classroom, Nearpod, Kahoot).
  • Hands-on experience with coding platforms, basic robotics, and multimedia projects is often a plus.
  • Experience working with diverse learners, including students with special education needs or English language learners.
