Job summary

Etsy is seeking a Senior Software Engineer I to lead and implement solutions for moderately complex problems aligned with our team goals. You will guide teammates, deliver projects, and enable others to succeed across a broad product and system area.

This full-time role reports to the Senior Engineering Manager. Expect collaboration across Engineering, Product, Design, and business teams, and to contribute to the web stack using diverse technologies, with adaptability in mind.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of software development experience.
• Experience in information retrieval systems and ability to write high performance production quality code.
• Experience operating within a large codebase and crafting simplicity from complex systems.
• Flexibility with different programming languages and cloud-native environments.
• Strong collaborator and communicator who helps the team grow.
• Taking the lead on advising and implementing solutions to loosely scoped problems.
• Demonstrated ability to write understandable, testable code with maintainability in mind.
• Understanding of impact on end users and running a large-scale website.
• Excellent communication that adapts to technical and non-technical audiences.
• Curiosity and ability to learn autonomously.
• Experience working with AI Agents and related tools, like MCP servers and skills.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with Engineers, PMs, and Designers to develop seller-focused solutions.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams and Etsy partners.
• Contribute across the web stack from front-end to back-end technologies.
• Develop and maintain critical path product services.
• Provide detailed design and code reviews to improve quality.
• Gain insights through research, data analysis, and A/B tests.
• Push code to production early using continuous deployment.
• Build observability and testing tools for search and recommendation systems.
• Practice continuous learning and agile delivery.
• Perform other tasks as required by Etsy's discretion or local law.
