Job summary

Cloudsufi is seeking a Senior Frontend Developer to craft AI-native data experiences and advanced visualizations for public datasets. You will work with React, TypeScript, and D3.js to build data explorers, topic pages, and conversational search interfaces.

You will collaborate with frontend, backend, data, and AI engineers in an open-source environment to deliver accessible, high-performance interfaces and generative UI components.

Qualifications

• 8–12 years of professional frontend development experience.
• Strong production experience with React, including hooks, state management, and component architecture.
• Advanced knowledge of CSS/SCSS, Flexbox, Grid, responsive design, and web accessibility.
• Hands-on experience building production-grade D3.js and SVG visualizations.
• Strong understanding of REST/JSON APIs, client-side state management, and URL-based state serialization.
• Experience building at least one LLM-powered user experience, such as an AI chat interface, AI search experience, copilot, or agent workflow.
• Experience with Jest and React Testing Library.
• Strong Git and GitHub experience, including working with pull requests and collaborative code reviews.

Responsibilities

• Develop production-quality React and TypeScript features across data explorers, topic pages, and natural-language search experiences.
• Build sophisticated, interactive data visualizations using D3.js and SVG, including maps, timelines, and charts.
• Implement advanced visualization interactions such as zooming, brushing, tooltips, filtering, and cross-chart linking.
• Design and develop AI-native user experiences, including conversational interfaces, streaming responses, and agent workflows.
• Create interfaces that communicate agent activity, including planning steps, tool calls, progress indicators, approvals, and sources.
• Build generative UI experiences where model output populates charts, tables, and visualizations.
• Ensure robust loading, fallback, error, and uncertainty states for AI-generated experiences.
• Integrate frontend apps with Flask and API services, maintain URL-based state for reproducibility.
• Maintain accessible, responsive, high-performance interfaces aligned with WCAG.

About the Project

We are looking is an open knowledge graph that brings together public statistics from authoritative sources, including census bureaus, the United Nations, and the World Bank.

Its open-source web application powers data explorers, topic pages, embeddable visualizations, and natural-language search. The platform is evolving toward AI-native and agentic data experiences, enabling users to interact with complex public datasets through conversational and intelligent interfaces.

As a Senior Frontend Developer, you will work closely with the engineering team and Frontend Lead to build modern, highly interactive data experiences using React, TypeScript, and D3.js.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop production-quality React and TypeScript features across data explorers, topic pages, and natural-language search experiences.
• Build sophisticated, interactive data visualizations using D3.js and SVG, including choropleth maps, timelines, scatter plots, ranking tables, and linked visualizations.
• Implement advanced visualization interactions such as zooming, brushing, tooltips, filtering, and cross-chart linking.
• Design and develop AI-native user experiences, including conversational query interfaces, streaming LLM responses, and agent workflows.
• Create interfaces that clearly communicate agent activity, including planning steps, tool calls, progress indicators, approvals, and cited sources.
• Build generative UI experiences where model output dynamically selects and populates real chart, table, and visualization components.
• Implement robust loading, fallback, error, and uncertainty states for AI-generated experiences.
• Integrate frontend applications with Flask and Mixer APIs.
• Maintain query and visualization state in URLs to enable shareable and reproducible experiences.
• Build responsive, accessible, and high-performance interfaces aligned with WCAG principles.
• Write comprehensive unit and component tests and contribute production-ready code through GitHub pull requests.
• Collaborate closely with frontend, backend, data, and AI/ML engineers in an open-source development environment.

• Experience designing prompts and evaluating AI features for quality, latency, reliability, and user feedback.
• Familiarity with Python/Flask, gRPC, and Protobuf.
• Understanding of knowledge graphs, including StatVars, DCIDs, provenance, Schema.org, MCF, JSON-LD, and RDF.
• Experience with modern build and testing tools such as Webpack, npm/yarn, Bazel, Percy, and hermetic E2E testing.
• Experience with Docker and cloud platforms.
• Contributions to open-source projects or experience working on large-scale open-source applications.
