Change.org is looking for a Senior Engineering Manager to lead and empower a team to design, validate, and scale features that make Change.org’s petition platform indispensable to nonprofit and mission‑driven organizations, making them a key user group on Change.org.

As the leader of our newly-formed Nonprofit Starters squad, you’ll manage and mentor a team of five engineers, partnering closely with Product and Design to define and deliver a roadmap that meets the needs of organizational changemakers around the world. Your work will empower nonprofits to launch impactful, scalable campaigns and build lasting movements on Change.org. You will report directly to our VP of Engineering and play a key role in shaping the platform’s next phase of growth and strategic focus.

A bit about Change.org: we’re a social impact business (a public benefit company), and the world's largest social change platform, with 100 million monthly users, over 40,000 campaigns launched on the site every month, and a 100% user-generated, profitable revenue model. Our users win campaigns for change once every hour. In the last decade in Mexico, from the mobilization against the Maya train to the campaign to increase vacation days, many nationwide movements were created on Change.org. From the campaign Cáncer Warriors to ask for the release of the elephant Eli, dozens of local, national and international victories are happening every day thanks to the power of our users who are changing our country.

What you’ll do:

• Nonprofit Pilot MVP Shipped: Lead engineering for a new nonprofit experience, delivering an MVP with 3–5 launch partners. Define and measure baseline success metrics to validate product impact and guide future iterations.
• Donation & Supporter Tools Integrated: Collaborate with existing teams to extend existing fundraising flows to nonprofits, achieving measurable adoption and revenue contribution.
• High‑performing Team Culture: Onboard into and develop a five‑engineer squad, maintaining an inclusive, psychologically safe, and high-performing team culture rooted in trust, curiosity, and continuous learning.
• Cross-Functional Partnership: Collaborate deeply with Product, Design, and other partners to define goals, prioritize work, and ensure seamless alignment between technical implementation and business outcomes.
• Team Development & Mentorship: Support the growth of engineers through coaching, regular feedback, and thoughtful career development, enabling strong performance across levels and specializations.
• This job is expected to participate in our on call rotation.

  • Experience with turning ambiguity into iterative prototypes, leveraging AI tooling for rapid concept validation, shipping quickly, and learning.

  • Represent engineering in strategic conversations, advocating for technical needs while deeply understanding business and user impact.

• Leadership and Team Management
  • Develop and retain top engineering talent; provide clear growth paths and mentorship that supports both individual aspirations and team needs.
  • Foster a high-performance, inclusive, and collaborative team culture rooted in trust, feedback, and shared ownership.
  • Conduct thoughtful performance reviews, promote continuous learning, and ensure engineers thrive through regular coaching and development opportunities.
• Technical Expertise
  • Strong hands-on experience with Node.js or Ruby on Rails — our live coding interview will use one of these (your choice).
  • Proficiency in React and TypeScript, with a solid understanding of modern frontend architecture and best practices.
  • Familiarity with GraphQL, AWS, and Kubernetes is a plus, especially for building scalable and resilient systems.
  • Comfortable navigating both backend and frontend concerns in a full-stack environment.

Target Experience:

• Engineering Leadership: 3+ years of experience managing engineering teams.
• Software Development: 4+ years of hands-on experience as a full-stack, web-focused, software engineer.
• 0-1 Experience: created teams or products from scratch, worked in early-stage startups or newly-minted business lines.
• Infrastructure: Experience with Terraform, Kubernetes, and AWS.
• API Design: Experience developing RESTful APIs and GraphQL endpoints.

We’re open to the right candidate at either the Engineering Manager or Senior Engineering Manager level — title and scope will be calibrated based on experience.

This is a remote role available in two different formats:

• Full-Time Employee: MX$129,000/month gross via a local third-party entity.
• Full-Time Employee: MX$147,875/month gross via a local third-party entity.

Our compensation philosophy is based on pay equity. All of our salaries are determined before we launch a role – they are based on a predetermined salary scale, the level on that scale and the cost of labor for that location.

• 45 min Recruiter Screen
• 1 hr Interview with our VP of Engineering & Mexico Site Lead
• 2 hr Team interviews which includes an architecture interview, and product/design interview.
• 1.5 hr Live Coding Interview
• ½ hr Interview with our CTO
