NTT DATA is seeking a Senior Backend Engineer to join our Guadalajara team. You will design and implement production-grade data ingestion, transformation, and delivery pipelines, and enhance REST APIs using Node.js, Java, and AWS.

This role offers remote work with full CDT business hours overlap; you will ship code in two-week sprints, own testing strategies, and collaborate with product and platform teams to scale systems.

Formación

• 5+ years backend software engineering delivering production code.
• Proficiency in Node.js and Java (17+).
• Hands-on AWS experience: Lambda, API Gateway, DynamoDB, Kinesis, SQS/SNS, S3.
• IaC experience with Terraform; manage infrastructure in code.
• SQL (PostgreSQL) and/or NoSQL (DynamoDB); event streaming concepts.
• Testing discipline: Unit tests, integration tests, CI/CD pipelines, GitLab.
• System thinking: Understand tradeoffs (throughput vs. latency, consistency, cost); design for scale.
• Code quality: Write clean, maintainable, documented code without hand-holding.
• Agile mindset: Thrive in sprints; comfortable with iteration and scope prioritization.

Senior Backend Engineer

We are currently seeking a Senior Backend Engineer to join our team in Guadalajara, Jalisco (MX-JAL), Mexico (MX).

Work Mode

Remote with full CDT business hours overlap

About the Role

We're building a new service with data pipeline infrastructure and REST APIs. You'll join our team to design and implement production-grade data ingestion, transformation, and delivery pipelines, plus enhance and maintain REST APIs using Node.js, Java, and AWS services.

By month 4–5, we expect working, tested pipelines and API enhancements handling real data at scale. You'll work embedded with the team, shipping code fast while maintaining quality.

What You'll Do

Core Responsibilities

• Design and implement data pipeline services (ingestion, transformation, delivery)
• Enhance and maintain REST APIs for service integration and external consumption
• Write clean, testable backend code in Node.js and Java
• Build event-driven architectures using AWS (Lambda, Kinesis, SQS, SNS, DynamoDB, S3)
• Set up CI/CD pipeline automation in GitLab
• Own end-to-end testing strategy (unit, integration, contract, API tests)
• Collaborate tightly with software engineers, platform engineering and product team on design decisions
• Deliver working code on a predictable cadence (sprints/iterations)

Execution Focus

• Ship features weekly/bi-weekly
• Maintain production-grade code quality from day one
• Resolve production issues and optimize system performance
• Write minimal, effective documentation for handoff/runbooks

Collaboration

• Participate in daily standups, sprint planning, and code reviews
• Provide thoughtful PR feedback and accept feedback on your code
• Work synchronously with team during full CDT overlap hours
• Communicate blockers and dependencies early

Required Qualifications

• 5+ years backend software engineering (shipping production code)
• Proficiency: Node.js and Java (17+)
• AWS hands-on experience: Lambda, API Gateway, DynamoDB, Kinesis, SQS/SNS, S3
• Infrastructure-as-Code: Hands-on experience with Terraform; comfortable managing infrastructure in code
• Data fundamentals: SQL (PostgreSQL) and/or NoSQL (DynamoDB), event streaming concepts
• Testing discipline: Unit tests, integration tests, CI/CD pipelines, GitLab
• System thinking: Understand tradeoffs (throughput vs. latency, consistency, cost); design for scale
• Code quality: Write clean, maintainable, documented code without hand-holding
• Agile mindset: Thrive in sprints; comfortable with iteration and scope prioritization

• Team can maintain/extend pipelines and APIs post-contract without you
• Clear API documentation and integration patterns established
• Predictable delivery cadence (no major surprises)

How We Work

Timezone

You work standard CDT hours, overlapping fully with US team.

Pace

Sprint-based (2-week cycles), daily standups, bi-weekly planning/retros.

Handoff

During final 2–4 weeks, you'll document runbooks, transfer knowledge to Operations team, and ensure they can own the systems you built.
