Job description

Duration: Long Term

Client: Acieta

Role Overview

We are seeking an experienced KUKA Controls & Robotics Programmer to join our engineering team. In this role, you will design, program, simulate, and commission custom automated robotic systems utilizing KUKA controllers (KRC4/KRC5) and KUKA Robot Language (KRL). You will work closely with cross-functional teams—including Mechanical Engineers, PLC Programmers, and Project Managers—to bring custom turnkey automation solutions from design phase to full production rollout on customer sites.

Key Responsibilities
  • Robotic Programming & Configuration: Develop, write, and optimize KUKA Robot Language (KRL) software for applications such as machine tending, material handling, arc/spot welding, palletizing, and part deburring.
  • Offline Simulation: Perform 3D reachability analysis, cycle-time optimizations, and offline programming using KUKA.Sim, WorkVisual, or related simulation tools prior to physical setup.
  • Integration & Commissioning: Configure TCPs (Tool Center Points), base coordinate systems, safety zones (KUKA SafeOperation), and I/O communication protocols (EtherNet/IP, PROFINET, DeviceNet) to interface with PLCs, vision systems, and end-of-arm tooling (EOAT).
  • Field Setup & Debugging: Support mechanical and electrical debug, path touch-ups, process optimization, and signal handshakes on the shop floor and at customer facilities.
  • Troubleshooting & Support: Diagnose and resolve complex software, electrical, hardware, communication, and mechanical motion issues during system assembly and runoff testing.
  • Documentation & Training: Maintain standard programming templates, create technical system documentation, and provide operational/maintenance training to end-user technical teams.
Qualifications & Skill Requirements

Required:

  • Experience: 3+ years of direct experience programming, configuring, and commissioning KUKA industrial robots in custom automation or manufacturing environments.
  • Technical Proficiency:
  • Deep knowledge of KUKA KRC4 and/or KRC5 controllers and KUKA SmartPAD interfaces.
  • Advanced proficiency in KUKA Robot Language (KRL) programming (e.g., routines, logic structure, interrupt handling, subprograms).
  • Experience with WorkVisual software for hardware configuration and project deployment.
  • Hands-on experience configuring industrial communications (Profinet, EtherNet/IP) and robot safety software (KUKA SafeOperation).
  • Interfacing Knowledge: Solid understanding of interfacing KUKA robots with major PLCs (Allen-Bradley ControlLogix/CompactLogix or Siemens S7/TIA Portal).
  • Travel Flexibility: Ability to travel up to 30-50% for field installation, startup, and commissioning at customer sites as required by project scope.
Preferred / Plus
  • Associate or Bachelor’s degree in Robotics, Automation, Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, or related field.
  • Official KUKA training certifications (e.g., KUKA System Integrator, KRL Programming 1/2, SafeOperation).
  • Experience with 2D/3D Machine Vision integration (Cognex, Keyence, or KUKA.VisionTech).
  • Multi-brand robotics experience (FANUC, ABB, Yaskawa) alongside KUKA experience.
Soft Skills & Cultural Fit
  • Strong analytical problem-solving skills with a methodical approach to debugging complex automated systems.
  • Highly collaborative mindset with strong communication skills to work alongside customers, shop technicians, and engineering staff.
  • Self-starter attitude capable of taking ownership of projects from design phase to full handover.
