Ford is seeking a Restraints Engineer to design, develop, validate, and release seatbelts, airbags, steering wheels, and related components for multiple vehicle programs. You will benchmark with competitors to improve cost and quality while aligning with engineering targets and regulatory standards.

You will collaborate with program teams, design and release, and suppliers to ensure on-time part delivery and successful PPAP for mass production.

Formación

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or equivalent required.
  • Experience as a Design and Release Engineer for interior commodities, seats and restraints.
  • Knowledge of regulatory requirements such as FMVSS and IIHS.

Responsabilidades

  • Design, develop, validate, and release restraints system components for Ford programs.
  • Benchmark competitive products to improve cost and quality structures.
  • Develop value management strategies across carlines.
  • Monitor interior trim and interfacing components per benchmarks.
  • Translate customer and regulatory requirements into engineering targets.
  • Support PPAP for mass production.

In this position...

The PD Restraints Engineer is responsible for the cost management of restraints components and systems (Such as Airbags, Steering wheels, Seatbelts, Anchorages, etc.) for new and current vehicles including:

  • Managing project timing, releasing drawings and engineering specifications.
  • Creating specific FMA Documents, DVP&R, and quality documents as required.
  • Part delivery on time for each program and product milestone.
  • Tracking of supplier’s deliverables.
  • Work closely with Program Teams as well as with Design and Release to identify, develop and incorporate value management opportunities.
  • Cost and weight management along with performance will be a key element of this responsibility.
What you’ll do...
  • Design, develop, validate, and release Restraints System commodities, subsystems, and components for the assigned programs. Commodities include Seatbelts, Airbags, Steering wheels, Buckles, Height adjusters etc.
  • Conduct extensive benchmarking of competitive products to improve cost and quality structure of Ford's products.
  • Develop value management strategies for cross-carline products.
  • Monitor the development of Interior trim and other interfacing components for Ford vehicles according to company-specific benchmarks.
  • Design parts to comply with Corporate, Regulatory and Local Requirements for parts validation, considering the WCR (Worldwide Customers Requirements), ES (Engineering Specifications) and SDS (Systems Design specifications) as well as Manufacturing and Assembly requirements.
  • Translate Customer, Regulatory, and Product requirements into engineering targets.
  • Monitor suppliers and analyze customer feedback through Ford's systems.
  • Incorporation of design and engineering changes at Assembly Plants and leading discussions with involved parties including suppliers.
  • Support suppliers and assembly departments with current production quality and manufacturing issues.
  • Support production part approval processes (PPAP) for mass production
You’ll have...
Minimum Requirements:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Electronics, Mechatronics Engineering or Equivalent.
  • 5+ Years - Experience working as a Design and Release Engineer for Interior Commodities, Seats and Restraints Commodity experience.
  • 5+ Years - Working knowledge of Regulatory and Public Domain Requirements including but not limited to FMVSS, IIHS, etc.
  • Working Knowledge of simulation and testing methodologies for restraints and safety systems.
  • Good program management skills with the ability to manage a number of assignments simultaneously and prioritize appropriately.
  • Experience leading multiple assignments with demanding timelines.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work well with others as part of a team.
  • Significant problem-solving skills demonstrated previously.
  • Knowledge of Manufacturing and Assembly operations. Sharp focus on Quality and Cost management
  • Travel will be required to Ford assembly plants, Supplier design & testing locations as well as to supplier manufacturing locations in the US, Mexico and Canada.
