Descripción de la vacante

Ford of Mexico is seeking a Commercial Vehicle Upfit Integration Engineer to design, integrate and validate upfit subsystems for fleet customers, ensuring safety, reliability and cost efficiency.

You will lead cross-functional engineering delivery from concept through production, coordinate with external upfitters, define verification plans (DFMEA, DVP&R), troubleshoot integration challenges and manage timing and costs across platforms.

Formación

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant engineering field; 3–5+ years in vehicle systems integration or upfitting.
  • Experience with CAD/PLM software and vehicle electrical distribution systems.
  • Familiarity with DFMEA, DVP&R and quality tools; strong problem-solving and communication skills.

Responsabilidades

  • Lead cross-functional engineering delivery for commercial vehicle upfit subsystems from concept design through production launch.
  • Serve as primary technical liaison between internal teams and external upfitters to resolve packaging, structural, and electrical integration challenges.
  • Define, validate, and execute vehicle-level engineering verification plans (DFMEA, DVP&R, circuit analysis) to meet safety and weight specs.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve complex electromechanical and vehicle network integration issues using standard automotive diagnostic tools and CAN/LIN networks.
  • Manage upfit subsystem program timing, design changes, and cost targets across platforms.
  • Author and maintain body builder layout books, upfitter integration guides, and system interface specifications.

In this position...

As part of the Product Development and Commercial Vehicle Engineering team, you will contribute to designing and engineering world-class commercial vehicles and specialized solutions that power businesses globally.

  • As a Commercial Vehicle Upfit Integration Engineer, you will bridge the gap between core vehicle engineering platforms and specialized aftermarket equipment manufacturers. You will lead the technical design, integration, and validation of custom upfit subsystems—ensuring commercial vehicle platforms deliver safe, reliable, and cost-effective solutions for fleet customers while maximizing product versatility and performance.
What You’ll Do...
  • Lead cross-functional engineering delivery for commercial vehicle upfit subsystems across structural, mechanical, and electrical interfaces from concept design through production launch.
  • Serve as the primary technical liaison between internal product development teams and external vehicle upfitters/body builders to resolve packaging, structural, and electrical integration challenges.
  • Define, validate, and execute vehicle-level engineering verification plans (DFMEA, DVP&R, circuit analysis) to guarantee compliance with regional safety and vehicle weight specifications.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve complex electromechanical and vehicle network integration issues using standard automotive diagnostic tools, CAN network data, and electrical schematics.
  • Manage upfit subsystem program timing, design change requests, and financial targets to optimize piece cost, weight, and installation efficiency across platforms.
  • Author and maintain technical body builder layout books, upfitter integration guides, and system interface specifications to support third-party equipment installations.
You’ll have...
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Systems Engineering, Mechatronics, or a related discipline (or equivalent practical experience).
  • Typically 3 to 5+ years of engineering experience in vehicle systems integration, commercial/fleet vehicles, or specialty equipment upfitting.
  • Hands-on experience with CAD and Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) software (e.g., CATIA, Teamcenter, 3DEXPERIENCE).
  • Proficiency with automotive electrical distribution systems, CAN/LIN vehicle networks, and diagnostic/measurement tools (e.g., Vector CANalyzer, oscilloscopes).
  • Strong knowledge of core engineering quality and failure analysis tools (DFMEA, DVP&R, 8D, Fishbone analysis).
  • Excellent cross-functional leadership, technical problem-solving, and written/verbal communication skills for effectively engaging internal engineering teams and external commercial partners.
Even better, you may have...
  • Master’s degree in Engineering or Business Administration.
  • Functional Safety (ISO 26262) or Cybersecurity knowledge/certifications.
  • Direct experience with commercial vehicle body builder/upfitter programs, auxiliary power take-off (PTO) systems, or specialized aftermarket equipment integration.
