Job Description: Project Category Leader

The Project Category Leader supports Product Development projects within the Offer Lifecycle Management (OLM), ensuring an efficient supplier selection process.

This role is crucial for coordinating procurement activities between Procurement categories and the Line of Business (LoB).

The Project Category Leader aids in implementing global and local procurement strategies that align with LoB needs concerning growth and technical challenges.

He/she is a key team player within Offer Lifecycle Management, GSC, and the Schneider Electric Procurement community, recognized as an expert in their category and a specialist in supplier management.

Main Objectives as PCL:

In collaboration with the Procurement Project Leader, he/she leads the supplier selection process, including:

  • End-to-end negotiation, from preparation to business award (including e-RFQ)
  • Influencing and deploying commodity strategy, SoC, and methods (Should Cost, e-sourcing templates)
  • Challenging and influencing SOC/Recommended choices to ensure alignment with industry needs
  • Providing inputs for CSRM/SRIM analysis to the project team and PPL
  • Managing procurement activities for their category within new product projects
  • Contributing to procurement deliverables
  • Guiding component and sub-assembly selection with a procurement approach, considering target costs, TCO, innovation, standardization, supply chain flexibility, and quality
  • Analyzing and challenging needs
  • Contributing to project targets such as product cost, project cost, quality, and time-to-market, while adhering to procurement processes and strategies
  • Participating in make-or-buy decisions
  • Bringing supplier market knowledge and innovation into projects
  • Participating in key supplier negotiations for major suppliers when relevant
  • Challenging specifications, defining PPEP, and reviewing contracts
As Category Representative:
  • Consolidate roadmap, project info, and needs from Business Units to Commodity Management; attend core team meetings
  • Consolidate OCP information (e.g., supplier performance) for Business Reviews with key suppliers
  • Organize interlock meetings with GCD/RCMs
  • Collect and distribute targeted supplier OCP performance data before Business Reviews
Requirements:
  • Education: Engineering or business bachelor’s degree; a master’s or MBA is a plus
  • Experience: 5-10 years in a purchasing/sourcing role within a multinational corporation; procurement and supplier management experience are mandatory; experience with outsourced products/assembly processes is a plus
  • Business Understanding: Supply chain experience in mechanical (plastic, stamping, printing), electrical (winding, PCBA), and electronics (software/hardware) components, with industrial product application experience preferred; business acumen
