The Program Manager is responsible and accountable for executing all assigned programs in accordance with Tenneco's program management processes. They ensure flawless launch performance and meet all program targets, including but not limited to: 0-0-100-100-30 (0 recordable injuries; 0 customer quality rejections; 100% on-time delivery; 100% of CAR financial targets; measured during the first 30 days after customer Start Of Production).

This role manages several minor programs or one to two major programs. It is an early career position in Program Management, ideally suited for an internal employee transitioning into the PM function.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Tenneco may make reasonable accommodations to enable people with disabilities to perform the essential duties of the position.

  • Ensures problem identification and resolution.
  • Promotes high levels of integration and collaboration with plant teams, Launch Managers, and across functions such as Engineering, Sales, Finance, Quality, and Purchasing.
  • Adopts a proactive “go and verify” approach by personally visiting plants and suppliers at appropriate intervals.
  • Ensures the effectiveness of program team and customer review meetings.
  • Maintains effective communication as the central point for program-related information.
  • Leads and manages the program team through all gate phases from Gate 1 (Stage 2) to Gate 7.
  • Manages scope effectively, with emphasis on customer scope changes, executing the Scope Change process as needed.
  • Performs trade-off analysis balancing cost, time, product quality, and resources.
  • Identifies risks early, develops mitigation strategies, and executes the Red Flag process.
  • Escalates risks and mitigation plans to leadership in a timely manner.
  • Develops and maintains high-quality timing plans with team buy-in to meet milestones.
  • Ensures all gates are met on time, with zero days late.
  • Delivers customer MRDs on schedule with high-quality products.
  • Achieves all program financial targets and budgets.
  • Verifies that CARs and Business Cases are reasonable and achievable.
  • Executes effective financial roadmaps and quality objectives.
  • Ensures sourcing aligns with schedule and quality standards.
  • Completes Make versus Buy decisions appropriately.
  • Ensures on-time PPAP approval of purchased components.
  • Visits customers and suppliers as needed to maintain positive relationships.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Education / Experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or equivalent.
  • Master’s Degree in Business Administration preferred.
  • PMP certification is preferred.
  • For internal candidates: Meet established Program Management competency targets, with an average score of 3, no ratings below 2, and improvement plans for ratings of 2.
  • Minimum 6 years’ experience (up to 8) in the automotive industry, with 3-5 years in another functional area such as Engineering, Operations, Finance, Quality, Sales, or Purchasing.
  • Experience in at least two key functional areas.
  • Proven knowledge of program management methodologies, tools, and techniques.
  • Participation or leadership in cross-functional teams.

Skills:

  • Leads, motivates, and drives cross-functional teams.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and oral.
  • Focus on execution and quality.
  • Fluent in English; additional languages are a plus.
  • Proficient in MS Office and MS Project.

Travel: Up to 25%, including international travel as required.

Physical Demands / Work Environment:

  • Often required to sit, handle, or feel objects with hands and fingers.
  • Occasionally required to stand, walk, reach, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
  • Requires close vision abilities.
  • May be exposed to moving mechanical parts and vehicles.
  • Work environment noise level is usually quiet to moderate.
