Volex in Baja California seeks a detail‑oriented Wire Harness Product Engineer to support both new product introduction (NPI) and sustaining engineering for off‑highway, automotive, and industrial equipment. You will develop comprehensive engineering documentation, validate customer designs, and aid production ramp‑up while ensuring long‑term performance.

The role requires strong CAD skills, IPC/WHMA‑A‑620 and SAE/J1128 knowledge, and collaboration with manufacturing and quality teams to drive

Formación

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical/Electronics/Industrial Engineering or related field.
  • English proficiency with strong written and spoken communication (≈85%).
  • Minimum 3 years in wire harness design/engineering in off‑highway, automotive, or industrial sectors.

Responsabilidades

  • Develop and maintain wire harness documentation (BOMs, routing diagrams, work instructions) using Excel and CAD tools.
  • Support NPI with cross‑functional teams during concept, prototype, and pilot phases.
  • Assist prototype builds and design validation testing; analyze results to refine designs.
  • Review customer drawings and specs for compliance with standards (IPC/WHMA‑A‑620, SAE J1128, USCAR, UL).
  • Perform ECOs and maintain traceability across product lifecycle.
  • Collaborate with manufacturing, procurement, quality, and test engineering to support launches and resolve production issues.
  • Provide sustaining engineering support by addressing field issues and driving improvements.
  • Keep up with advancements in wire harness technology and regulatory requirements.

Position Summary:

We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Wire Harness Product Engineer to join our dynamic engineering team. This role is critical in supporting both new product introduction (NPI) and sustaining engineering activities for off-highway, automotive, and industrial equipment applications. The successful candidate will be responsible for developing accurate and comprehensive product engineering documentation, validating customer designs, supporting production ramp-up, and ensuring long-term product performance.

The ideal candidate will possess strong technical knowledge in wire harness design and manufacturing, a hands‑on approach to problem‑solving, and a collaborative mindset focused on product quality, manufacturability, and continuous improvement.

Core Areas:
  • Develop and maintain detailed wire harness documentation including bills of materials (BOMs), wire routing diagrams, visual aids, and work instructions using Microsoft Excel and CAD tools.
  • Support New Product Introduction (NPI) by collaborating with cross‑functional teams during concept, prototype, and pilot phases to ensure design feasibility, manufacturability, and cost‑effectiveness.
  • Assist in the coordination and execution of prototype builds and design validation testing; analyze results to refine and optimize product designs.
  • Review and interpret customer drawings and specifications to ensure compliance with engineering and regulatory standards.
  • Perform Engineering Change Orders (ECOs) and maintain accurate documentation to support product updates and traceability throughout the product lifecycle.
  • Partner with manufacturing, procurement, quality, and test engineering teams to support product launch and resolve issues impacting production.
  • Provide sustaining engineering support by troubleshooting field issues, recommending design enhancements, and driving continuous improvement initiatives for existing products.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant industry and customer standards (e.g., IPC/WHMA-A-620, SAE, UL, USCAR).
  • Maintain awareness of advancements in wire harness technology, materials, and regulatory requirements.
Required Experience and Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Industrial Engineering or a related field.
  • Proficiency in English, with 85% fluency in both written and spoken communication.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in wire harness design and engineering, preferably in the off‑highway, automotive, or industrial equipment sectors.
  • Proficiency in CAD software (e.g., AutoCAD, SolidWorks Electrical) and electrical design tools.
  • Strong knowledge of applicable wire harness standards (e.g., IPC/WHMA-A-620, SAE J1128, USCAR, UL).
  • Demonstrated experience supporting NPI and working within cross‑functional project teams.
  • Exceptional analytical and troubleshooting skills.
  • Strong attention to detail with excellent written and verbal communication abilities.
  • Proven ability to work effectively in a collaborative, fast‑paced environment.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Familiarity with automotive electrical systems, CAN communication, and diagnostic protocols.
  • Experience with wire harness manufacturing processes, materials, and connector systems.
  • Hands‑on experience with supporting prototype builds, first article inspection, and root cause analysis.
  • Working knowledge of ERP systems, PLM systems and engineering change management tools.
