We are seeking a Principal Software Engineer to lead a team of engineers in Mexico, responsible for designing, building, and deploying UI technology for investment managers creating and consuming buy-side research content. You will report to the Tech Lead and collaborate with a US-based project team, managing a local team to deliver high-quality web applications.

What You’ll Be Doing

1. Partnering with clients to lead design and build of user experiences using modern web development technologies. Managing a team of front-end engineers and coordinating with other contributors to deliver excellent software.
2. Contributing to Lab49’s Engineering Team by sharing your passion for great software development and helping foster a culture of high-quality engineering practices.
3. Hands-on engineering and architecture support across initiatives, leading projects, and serving as a role model for teams.
4. Building client relationships as a strategic partner and technical advisor, contributing to business growth and follow-on work.
5. Supporting business development by creating pitches, defining problems, presenting solutions, and expanding your professional network.
6. Developing management skills among line managers and fostering strategic career development within the team.

Required Skills and Experience

1. 10+ years of experience in designing and building complex software applications, with 5+ years leading Agile teams.
2. Proven leadership, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
3. Experience managing project teams and client interactions in finance, consulting, or startups.
4. Passion for technology and innovation, staying active in industry events.
5. Hands-on experience with TypeScript and React.
6. Experience with cloud platforms and SDLC practices like continuous delivery.
7. Understanding of testing, quality assurance, CI/CD, source control, and code reviews.
8. Excellent English communication skills.

Bonus Points

• Experience with financial tools like Bloomberg, Symphony, Excel, Salesforce, Databricks.
• Knowledge of other JavaScript frameworks such as Angular or Vue.
• Experience in capital markets, especially buy-side investment management.
• Experience with Terraform, backend engineering (C#/.NET, ASP.NET Core), SQL, and AWS.
