Job summary

Schweitzer Engineering Laboratories, Inc. seeks an experienced design engineer to create detailed electrical designs and provide drafting support under supervision. You will prepare CAD drawings, assist project leads, and ensure timely, quality delivery while expanding expertise in SEL products and protective relay systems.

Qualifications

• Associates degree required or equivalent experience for each academic year.
• Three plus years of relevant experience with high voltage electrical design, including protective relay controls systems.
• Ability to learn concepts and technical details of products.
• Ability to work with moderate supervision and own responsibilities.
• Competency in CAD drafting (AUTOCAD or Microstation).
• Understanding of installation requirements for protective relays of different type and function.
• Willing to travel as needed.
• Strong writing, documentation, and speaking skills.
• Ability to learn new skills and assume new responsibilities.
• Ability to work cooperatively in a team environment.
• Background check satisfactory to SEL.
• Negative drug test results.

Responsibilities

• Create detailed physical and electrical designs and support job estimates under supervision.
• Prepare CAD drawings and project documentation.
• Provide design engineering support to project technical leads.
• Complete assigned work and submit within timelines and budgets with high quality.
• Develop and maintain expertise in SEL and industry design practices.
• Assist and mentor drafters with technical tasks.
• Develop knowledge of SEL equipment and solutions for power system protection and automation.
• Use best available processes and tools and provide process feedback.
• Follow SEL Values and World Class Manufacturing Principles.
