Job Details
The HSE manager’s key responsibility is the ongoing identification, assessment, prioritization, and management of safety and environmental risks through the development, implementation, monitoring, and continual improvement of a cost-effective and efficient integrated management system. Essential functions include evaluating environmental, safety, and health programs and coordinating plant activities to support local and corporate objectives, ensuring compliance with safety and health regulatory requirements.
Responsibilities/Essential Duties
- Act as a liaison between the facility and local, state, and federal Mexican regulatory agencies.
- Assist the Facilities Maintenance team with contractor screening, qualifications, and safety training.
- Supervise responsibilities including training employees, safety audits, planning, and addressing complaints.
- Facilitate site Safety Committees and Safety Task Forces.
- Conduct ergonomic assessments and recommend corrective actions.
- Perform routine inspections and recommend risk reduction measures.
- Create and maintain local procedures for HSE compliance.
- Develop and deliver health, safety, and environmental training programs.
- Implement and manage site HSE programs such as IIPP, Hazard Communication, and Bloodborne Pathogens.
- Ensure permit conditions are met and maintained in the HaemoHSE system.
- Participate in accident investigations and determine root causes.
- Maintain permits and licenses, ensuring renewals are current.
- Maintain personal competencies and regulatory knowledge.
- Manage safety awareness activities and safety incentive programs.
- Oversee environmental activities including waste disposal and recycling, following Hierarchy of Controls.
- Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of safety and environmental programs.
- Coordinate with corporate HSE to update OSHA logs and other reporting requirements.
- Represent the site to external agencies such as OSHA, EPA, and Mexican authorities.
- Review new equipment and processes for safety and environmental implications.
- Track safety and environmental performance indicators.
- Ensure timely completion of safety work orders.
- Implement corporate HSE directives and maintain Business Continuity and Emergency Plans.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Environmental Science, Safety, or relevant field (Required)
- Minimum 5 years of experience in a manufacturing facility (Required)
- Excellent collaboration and team-building skills
- Knowledge of FDA regulations and experience in regulated industries preferred
- Ability to travel internationally, including to Mexico
- Knowledge of Business Continuity Planning or Risk Management preferred
