CIMMYT is seeking a dynamic, self-motivated, and service-oriented professional for the position of Field Research Technician, Pathology to work in the Global Wheat Program (GWP).

The position will be based at CIMMYT's headquarters in Texcoco, near Mexico City.

Specific duties:

1. Participate in field operations such as sowing, management, disease inoculation, disease evaluation, and harvest.
2. Conduct greenhouse work, including wheat disease experiments at seedling or adult plant stages, fungal virulence experiments, and seed multiplication.
3. Perform laboratory work such as collection, characterization, and maintenance of fungal pathogens, inoculum preparation, DNA extraction, molecular marker diagnosis, and mycotoxin contamination evaluation.
4. Assist in the collection of agronomic data of crops using measurement instruments assigned to the unit.
5. Support warehouse activities like seed storage and preparation.
6. Engage with fellow workers, visitors, and students from Mexico and abroad.

Requirements:

1. Bachelor's degree in agronomy or a related scientific field. A master's degree in plant pathology, microbiology, agronomy, sciences, phytotechnics, or related fields is desirable.
2. 1-2 years of experience for candidates with a master's degree; 4-5 years for those without.
3. Ability to perform basic statistics and prepare field maps.
4. Proficiency in English at an advanced level (minimum B2 as per CEFR), with an English test to be administered.
