GE Vernova in Mexico is seeking a Lead Substation Primary Engineer to provide technical design expertise for HV GIS/AIS substations. You will lead HV design activities, specify equipment, perform grounding and protection sizing, and coordinate with multi-disciplinary teams to meet project requirements.

The role requires a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, 6+ years of experience, and ability to travel globally. Strong knowledge of IEEE/IEC codes and English communication is essential.

Formación

Responsabilidades

  • HV (Primary) designs for GIS/AIS Substation projects.
  • Prepare single line diagrams, general arrangement, layouts, sections, and grounding details.
  • Capable of grounding, lightning, cable, and battery sizing per IEEE/IEC.
  • Prepare HV equipment specifications/selections and sizing per IEEE/IEC.
  • Evaluate vendor shop drawings and technical specs.
  • Support tender drawings, BOQ estimation, RFQ finalization & evaluation.
  • Coordinate with Automation, Civil & MEP teams; site/offices coordination.
  • Adapt to global renewable tech developments; ensure safety/EHS compliance.

Job Description Summary

The Lead Substation Primary Engineer will play a key role in supporting project execution, sales and business development by providing technical expertise in the design of electrification solutions for the EHV/HV Substations. This individual will be responsible for system design, material selection, quantity estimation, various engineering activities associated for a project and customer technical consultations. The candidate will also ensure that the proposed solutions meet customer needs while adhering to industry standards, safety regulations, quality requirements and cost-efficiency objectives.
The candidate shall execute with association of workgroups, where applicable, in order to meet assigned objectives. In this role, the candidate will work within defined parameters to make decisions, apply concepts to issues of moderate complexity, and resolve issues through immediate action or short-term planning.
The candidate will work with GSI Global Engineering Centre (GSI GEC) to coordinate with the GSI Regions / Business Lines / as per Project requirement.

Job Description

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Responsible for HV (Primary) designs for GIS/AIS Substation projects.
  • Preparation of basic Single Line Diagram, general arrangement, Layout Plan & Section of Overall plant, Equipment control room, GIS building arrangement, equipment erection dwgs, Grounding Layout/details , Trench Layout etc.
  • Capable to complete Grounding design, Lightning design, Cable Sizing, Battery Sizing, Illumination system design, Sag Tension calculation, Short Circuit Force and Bus- bar Sizing as per IEEE/IEC.
  • Preparation of all Project related HV Equipment Specifications/selections and Sizing as per IEEE/IEC
  • Evaluation of vendor Shop Drawings, Calculation & Technical Specs
  • Support ITO (tender) drawings, BOQ estimation, RFQ finalization & evaluation of various components, selection of equipment with best pricing options.
  • Co-ordination and integration with Automation, Civil & MEP.
  • Co-ordination of site & office team for execution of project
  • Flexible and quick to learn global developments in renewable technologies and adopt.
  • Know-how of IEEE / IEC codes, safety in design/EHS aspects, AC substation industry engineering practices.
  • Good Communication skills & capability to lead project independently along with Client handling.
  • Team handling & development.

Qualifications / Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in electrical engineering or related field.
  • Minimum of 6+ years of experience
  • Good understanding of power system components (transformers, switchgear, protection systems) and renewable energy integration.
  • Excellent communication skills, capable of explaining complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to balance technical requirements and business needs.
  • Ability to work collaboratively across teams and with clients.
  • Ability to guide/groom team and execute project in line with client/project requirement.
  • Ability to expand the competency domain, being able to take new learning challenges.
  • Professional working proficiency in English (reading, speaking, writing)
  • Flexible to travel globally

Desired Qualifications

  • Professional Engineering license in the United States (or demonstrating his/her plan to get PE license within a certain period).
  • FACTS project engineering i.e. STATCOM, FSC, Synchronous Condenser
  • HVDC/FACTS integrated project applications.
  • Competency on specialized tools like ETAP, CDGES or equivalent
  • Working experience with 3D Design Tools, BIM and Revit
