GE Vernova in Querétaro, Mexico seeks a Lead Power System Engineer to provide expert studies for electrification projects. You will conduct load flow, short circuit, CSCR and transient analyses, coordinating with GSI Global Engineering Centre and third parties. Domestic and international travel is required to support customers and project delivery. A strong background in power systems and NEC/NESC adherence is essential.

Formación

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering with power systems and power electronics.
  • Minimum of 5+ years of experience executing power system studies.
  • Strong knowledge of MV & HV substation standards and guidelines (IEEE, ANSI, NEC, NESC).
  • Professional proficiency in English (reading, writing, speaking).
  • Willingness to travel globally.

Responsabilidades

  • Independently perform in-depth system studies (Load Flow, Short Circuit, CSCR, Transient, LVRT/HVRT).
  • Oversee 3rd party study providers and coordinate with GSI GEC teams.
  • Collaborate with global regions and business lines as required.
  • Prepare technical documentation and present study results.

Job Description Summary

The Lead Power System Engineer will play a key role in supporting projects execution, sales and business development by providing technical expertise in the design of electrification solutions for the EHV/HV Substations. This individual will be responsible for all power system studies and calculations utilizing power system softwares.

The candidate shall execute with association of workgroups, where applicable, in order to meet assigned objectives. In this role, the candidate will work within defined parameters to make decisions, apply concepts to issues of moderate complexity, and resolve issues through immediate action or short-term planning.

The candidate will work with GSI Global Engineering Centre (GSI GEC) to coordinate with the GSI Regions / Business Lines / as per Project requirement.

Job Description

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Independently perform in depth system studies listed below; and/or specify scope, review, comment, and direct/oversee 3rd party provider(s) for the studies below:
  • Load Flow, Reactive Power Capability and Compensation, Power Factor Study
  • Short Circuit Study
  • Combined Short Circuit Ratio (CSCR) Study
  • Transient Switching and Insulation Coordination Study (including Transient Overvoltage and Recovery Voltage Analysis)
  • Main Circuit Parameters
  • Harmonic Performance/Stability Study
  • Transient Ride Through and Dynamic Performance Studies (DPS) and other Design Studies using the Offline Simulation Tools
  • Overall System Performance Assessment Study
  • Low Voltage Ride Through (LVRT) and High Voltage Ride Through (HVRT) Study
  • Arc Flash Study
  • Cable Selection and Sizing
  • Integration of dedicated studies for systems utilizing combined AC power sources; AC power sources include conventional generations, AC-BESS, turbines, and renewables.
  • Expertise in frequency and time-domain simulation tools, like PSCAD, PSS/E, ETAP, DigSilent PowerFactory, to perform system studies as detailed above or under desired characteristics section.

Qualifications / Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering including power systems and power electronics subjects with proven professional experience and technical expertise in the field of power system engineering and preferably in AC substations and power plant System Studies.
  • Minimum of 5+ years of experience executing power system studies
  • Good understanding of power system components (transformers, switchgear, protection systems) and renewable energy integration.
  • Strong knowledge on MV & HV substation North American standards & guidelines (IEEE & ANSI standards and codes such as the NEC and the NESC.), local grid codes and related equipment (safety, application, sizing, and integration).
  • Excellent communication skills, capable of explaining complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to balance technical requirements and business needs.
  • Professional working proficiency in English (reading, speaking, writing)
  • Flexible to travel globally

Desired Qualifications

  • Professional Engineering license in the United States (or demonstrating his/her plan to get PE license within a certain period).
  • Master’s degree in electrical engineering including power systems and power electronics subjects with proven professional experience and technical expertise in the field of power system engineering.
  • Knowledge of theNorth American Electric Reliability Corporation (NERC) and Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) compliance requirements and/or ISOs' interconnection or transmission planning guidelines.
  • Familiarity with ISOs such us PJM, ERCOT, MISO, SPP, CAISO, ISO-NE, NYISO.
  • Knowledge of RAM (Reliability-Availability-Maintainability) studies.
  • Knowledge of IEC and CIGRE guidelines is a plus.
  • Working knowledge of applicabledesign calculations for primary & secondary equipment such as battery sizing & DC system component selection, power transformer and circuit breaker selection, circuit protection, control and power cable selection and rating, bus, fittings, insulator, and arrector selection, ground grid design, and lightning protection.
