A leading open-source software provider is seeking a Lead Kernel Engineer to lead the delivery of Ubuntu Linux kernel initiatives. This role requires deep technical expertise in operating system kernels and the ability to guide a team of engineers. Candidates should possess excellent communication skills in English and a strong background in the C programming language, along with experience in Unix-based systems. While not a formal managerial role, the successful candidate will possess strong people skills and the ability to lead engineers within the team and coordinate with external teams to drive adoption and delivery.
We are seeking individuals with an incredibly deep technical background in operating system kernels and distributions, plus a strong flair for leadership and initiative to drive ideas and the associated delivery teams to completion.
Although we do not specify a fixed number of years of experience, a comparative guideline would be the demonstrated technical equivalent of 15+ years of industry experience.
Location: We have home-based lead kernel engineer roles in every timezone, with individual aspects potentially linked to a specific geographic region.
